SUSE Shares Linux-Themed Music Video Parodies (itwire.com)

German Linux company SUSE Linux is well-known for its Linux and other open source solutions. It is also known for producing videos for geeks and debuting them at its annual SUSECon conference. This year, in Prague, was no different. The company, which marked its 25th year on 2 September, came up with two videos, one to mark the occasion and the other all about Linux and open source. Both videos are parodies of well-known songs: the video Linus Said is based on "Momma Said", while 25 Years is a parody of "7 Years". Some of the lyrics in both SUSE videos would be meaningless to the average person -- but every word will ring a bell, sometimes a very poignant one, with geeks. And that's the primary audience it targets.

My boss got a kick out of this one.What was more fun though was running this one in stand alone flash in full screen on Linux after my boss asked to borrow my laptop a few years ago. He actually thought that my copy of windows had been hacked. Funny as hell when I had to come over and get him out of it and explain that he was not in a windows environment. He has not borrowed my laptop since but always asks for me for all his personal IT setup.

SuSE is an American company that comes with a copyright agreement which you have to accept if you wish to use it.
OpenSuSE is a corporate backed version that benefits the SuSE version both are copyrighted by the company in the U.S. that owns it. It also had or has dealings with the Microsoft Corporation and thus was considered a black sheep among Linux users and desktop users. It is not a German product.
I believe it was trading under Chapter 11 in the U.S. Novell owned it and then NetIQ, purchased parts of it and also Attachmate, purchase shares in it. At one time I had to use the box version supplied by Novell. I found it irritating people in the U.K. would notice immediately the date is around the wrong way even when you select your location. Also you are not allowed to use LibreOffice, even though it was set to British English, the interface and the spell checker was set to U.S. spelling. If people moved their documents over without looking spellchecker would get you in trouble...
It was a constant struggle to correct all the mistakes that they had made.. In the U.K., the date goes like this 15/10/2017.
And then there are the obvious things like spelling you had to delete U.S. and install en-gb. you then had to find all the U.S. parts and delete them.
I found the product insulting and hated using it! the English are very tolerant and would say things like "oh it is Americans just copy the fix its on the list."

Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake? I always knew there was something wrong with SuSe, but I didn't know it was this bad. If SuSe is the distro for people who listen to that garbage, it must be inherently defective

I got both videos but the songs parody was not Weird Al kind of good. Tried Suse a few years back, wasn't impressed with it either.
The lyrics don't rhyme or even flow in "Linus Said." The videography and audio is good, though; but "meh". I bet a lot of people wouldn't finish it and then skip the second....

The only distraction for me is pronunciation of "Linus" it should be "Linus said" not "Linux said". just my 1/100 cent.
Wow. I've been running Linux for 20 years now, first as servers and number-crunchers, and in the past ten years or so as my desktop.
OpenSUSE is one of a few distros that has been with me a long time, and it's not virtualized, it's the foundation on my bare metal.

I'll give the edge to OpenBSD on the songs (OK, OpenBSD is killing it by far).
SLES has been a kick-ass EL distro for the past couple of years that I have used it, though. It's good to see them branching out musically, too.
...and both are way better than `The Free Software Song'.

Clearly Linux has jumped the shark when this is something distro companies feel is worth their time and effort.
Between this, and the direction RedHat&Collabora is taking desktop Linux, it may well be high time to jump ship and go BSD...
