DC Comics Returns To Supermarket Shelves With New, Giant-Sized Comics (gizmodo.com)

DC Comics announced earlier this week that it has partnered with Walmart to revive its DC Giant range as a 100-page anthology format comic book. Four new series revolving around Batman, Superman, the Justice League, and the Teen Titans will launch solely in the retail stores starting July 1. From a report: Starting next month, each of the new monthly series will collect stories from the past two decades of DC Comics publishing -- including stories released as recently as this year -- revolving around each book's titular characters, as well as a few side stories featuring guest characters like Harley Quinn, the Terrifics, or even the recently introduced Sideways from the Dark Matter publishing initiative.

But on top of that, each series will also include new ongoing stories from top DC creatives like Tom King, Andy Kubert, and the recently-arrived Brian Michael Bendis -- setting the Giant line apart from Marvel and Archie's digest series, which exclusively feature reprinted stories.

Honestly, doing lines of comics tailored for an aging population seems like a really great idea. They have a lot of time to read, and disposable income...

No, the elderys' income goes to the medical industry

Waiting rooms need reading material too, and the companies can mark up the comics by some huge amount the way they do other medical costs!

This idea just gets better and better.

So here you are saying that not only can comic companies sell into waiting rooms, but indeed can sell multiple copies per month for replacement???

This is making me want to start my OWN comic book company just to implement this obviously lucrative idea!

Most superhero comics are just brand based crap. Superman or Batman change almost completely from writer to writer, their adventures often contradicting each other. The only reason that they are written to begin with is because of the stupid robotic nerds who buy anything with the right brand on it.

You're looking for continuity, in COMICS? You'd be better off wandering around with a lamp, looking for one honest man.

In manga and in one shots, there's a pretty stable continuity, exactly because they make sure to keep it contained instead of creating infinite sequels. Not all comics is crappy superheroes.

Historically, DC had a few good one shots, take Fables for example. The trick is either to look at their Vertigo label, or to make sure you are following specific writers (although that doesn't always work, due to management).

There are actually a few good comics for adults. I would recommend checking stuff like '20th century boys' or 'Über' or Grant Morrison's 'Doom patrol' or Gail Simone's 'Secret Six'.

On a positive note, DC has ejected some of its SJW writers, but they have leagues more.

Just need a more comic shops to close up! Eventually people will figure out the SJWs donâ(TM)t buy the crap they spew.

For some pure comics I recommend finding jawbreakers or cyberfrog campaigns.
