Gunman Shoots 4 at Middleton Software Company; Dies in Shootout With Police (madison.com)
Several Slashdot readers shared this report overnight: A gunman shot four people, none fatally, at his Middleton, Wisconsin workplace Wednesday morning before he was killed in a shootout with police, Middleton Police Chief Charles Foulke said. Authorities had not released the man's name or age, but police said he was from Madison and worked at WTS Paradigm, a software company at 1850 Deming Way where the shooting occurred. Police said a motive for the shooting was not yet known. Foulke said the shooter had been in the building before he began shooting at fellow employees around 10:29 a.m. One of the four people injured was just grazed by a bullet police say was fired from a handgun. Citing UW Health, a local NBC affiliate reported that two victims are in serious condition and one is in critical condition. "In a situation like this, you learn how great a community really is," WTS Marketing Manager Ryan Mayrand said. "We cannot thank the Middleton Police Department, the Dane County Sheriff's Office and other emergency personnel enough for their amazing response."
Do you want shootings? Because that's how you get shootings.
With the exception of one attack on a group of Congressmen, the mass shootings have been by angry white losers who could be posterboys for the alt-right.
The alt right aren't really conservative; they're angry, unthinking morons. A perfect match for You Know Who.
I learned about this when my mom texted me to let me know that she and my dad were both safe, her being out of town, dad being at home and hearing but not thinking much about the sirens down the way. My nephew's school was still on lockdown (despite it being miles away, better safe than sorry, I suppose.)
My parents live right near this place. They ride their bikes past it regularly. Middleton ain't a big place.
I can't decide if I'm relieved, livid, or just numb to it. Probably a bit of all three.
All you folks who get red in the face at the thought that maybe, just maybe, we could stand to have fewer guns in this country:
Eventually, there'll be too many people with a personal stake in this for you to beat.
Even if you decide to 'exercise your second amendment rights.'
Obliteracy: Words with explosions
Our mass ownership of guns in this country has left us with a homicide rate that is on average 5 times greater than any other first world nation.
I'm sure those people feel safer carrying but their ability to do so is making our society as a whole far less safe.

Why then does the gun control utopia of Chicago have such high rates of gun violence (but only some areas oddly),
The gun control laws in Illinois are undermined by the complete lack of them in Indiana. Also, the "some areas" where violence is more common are areas of concentrated poverty. It's not news that concentrated poverty leads to high crime rates.
... while there is a low rate of violence in places like... Plano, TX, where getting a gun is easy.
Because Plano is a pretty wealthy town with a low rate of poverty and essentially no concentrated poverty. Interesting that you chose that city as representative of locations where getting a gun is easy, rather than say, Beaumont, TX or Anchorage, AK.
Legal gun owners don't murder. That's what the best data available tells us. Which makes perfect sense if you don't suffer from liberal hysteria, because tracing murder by registered firearm is trivial.
Yes, LynnwoodRooster, Hispanics can count as whites
So Trump is racist because he wants to build a wall to keep fellow caucasians out?
