OpenBSD receives equipment donation worth $10,000
One of the many Anonymous Cowards let me know that OpenBSD has received a donation of equipment worth $10,000 from Network Security Technologies and Network Security Wizards. This is obviously excellent news for the OpenBSD team, and is yet more evidence of the seriousness with which the wider commercial world is treating free software.
That's because everyone knows its just so damn cool we can just sit back and share a smile. :-)

Kudos to Theo et. al. for finally getting the recognition they so much deserve..
OpenBSD may well end up being the best of the bunch if it can get the support is so needs. I think that as people realize the need for security, more people will come to appreciate OpenBSD.

The *BSD fans have been made well-aware by many /. users that we have few friends here...
Just be happy you got in a first post.
I do not deploy Linux. Ever.
Its like nobody on Slashdot cares about meaningful things. A 10k donation to OBSD is like a 100k donation towards Linux. Linux already has the name recognition. If you say 'Linux' to the average IT guy, they'll sit there and look like they're stoned for a lil bit. OpenBSD just gets "Huh? Is that like a Bondage thing?"
I hope that people who see this realize what that donation is going to do. Its personally making me very partial to the IDS system that the donator sells, and gosh, it seems to run *GREAT* on OpenBSD why not use that... And yes, I need to do Gig-E IDS because I damn well feel like it!
Actually, I think it goes to show that BSD people are not so lacking in self-confidence that they need to talk just to hear their own voice, or write silly "first posts" just to read their words.
It is not in the least surprising that it's a non-BSDer who did it.

This is a LITTLE off topic, but what would be a good BSD to start on? I tried installing Net and Free but for some reason my new (new, no other OS ever on it) HD won1t boot them... gives me a blinking cursor as if there's nothing there. Any help? I may take it to pcs for everyone (where I got it) and talk to them.. it IS a Seagate which is a part of Microsoft so maybe THAT has something to do with it, even though it was listed as UNIX-Friendly. Thanks.
If you think you know what the hell is really going on you're probably full of shit.

jdube is who I am.
Loved the little dig at Intel for not releasing specs...they may say they're OSS friendly, but are they really?
This will be very good for OpenBSD.
I use both OpenBSD and FreeBSD. I have to say
that OpenBSD is extremely well-suited for security
and is an impressive OS.
