Loki Hack '99 Patches available
anonymous porcupine writes "The kind folks at Loki Entertainment have finally released the Loki Hack '99 patches. Share and enjoy. And keep in mind that the hacks aren't listed in any particular order. :) " I actually had the privilege to judge the event at ALS - everyone did an amazing job (See the feature we did on it) - and now you can download the fruits of their labor.

You probably will have problems with some of the patches - eg the ones that add new units or new user interface compenents to panels. You could keep track of which files change under the ctp_data directory (specifically those under the english directories and make the suitable changes in the corresponding files in the german directories).
Sorry, I did kind of think about it at the time, but given the time constraints and my total lack of any knowledge of the German language I didn't do any.
For thine is the kernel and the penguin and the glory. Forever and ever, ^M. =:)
1. Will Loki release a version update that incorporate all the patches? It is silly to require users to uninstall and install the patches one at a time.
2. Will those patches work on Windows version of Civilization: Call To Power? If not, will the improvements made by these patches become available to other platforms?
3. If the patches do not work as expected, will the improved versions of the patches be available?
ahh that's pretty geeky
Compare what ESR made vs Jon Taylor contribution.
Can you tell who codes and who "evangelizes"?
It's kinda hard to do that when you spend maybe 6 hours total in the hack room. ;)

Just a helpful info- I think you meant 'bust a cap.' We could kick back a 40 or sip on gin and juice, and the bust a cap. Word. Yo.
Well, Labatt's Blue would be a two-four, not a forty, anyway. (Case of 24 bottles/cans.)
Last Post!
No, first posts were the worst thing ever to happen to slashdot...coupled with "naked and pertrified" and "Blow it out yer ass"...none of this shit is amusing after the 50,000th time...

How about versions compiled for glibc 2.0?
I'm liking these guys more and more.
I got an offer to beta test Heroes of Might and Magic III, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what else Loki does for Linux.
Even if it takes a God of Mischief to start things off right, I'll enjoy the anarchy of more Linux games and more open games.

2. Due to technical difficulties, #2 was lost.
1. We have a lovable penguin that children can identify with.. rather than the souless corporate icon of a window. =) Conversely, for the naughtier children, we have daemons.
Incase you're wondering why this is posted under the Loki thread... I have no idea... but it's funny enough that you can overlook this infraction, right?

I quote: Loki Entertainment Software has announced a contest where an elite group of hackers (in C++, that is) will be chosen to improve their port of Civilization: Call to Power. The winner will get a dual-processor Linux box as a prize.
Pretty neat. I haven't downloaded it yet but I hope it's in big, friendly letters.
What looks really impressive, though, is Multifractal Penguins and Porcupines.
Having cow units would be pretty cool as well.
Am I the only one disappointed with ESR's comparatively paltry entry? I kind of expected more (such as some actual programming) than some simple text-editing when I saw his name.
I was a programmer on the original version of CTP. This is actually the first time I've seen the list of Loki Hacks. I'll just comment on a few.
Flat map - The AI will probably have a lot of problems with this. As noted, pathing still thinks the world wraps, and the AI uses the same pathing...
Don't Panic - Very amusing!
Cows were in the original design. They worked like mobile farms, basically. The problem was people would surround their cities with cows, making it impossible to attack with stealth units and generally annoying to move through enemy territory at all. You can actually enable most of the functionality just by adding the right flags to the text files, but not the ability of other units to rustle them. The latter code is gone, sorry.
The 1.2 version (out for Windows already) has an autpilot feature available from the chat window. I forget the command, but it's in the readme (I hope!)
The customize your civ hack is pretty darn impressive for 48 hours with this code. Nice one!
All of this is awesome. I'd love to do this with future games too. Thanks a lot to all of you!

You're right. I've only been exposed to the G17 and G19... but you can bust a .40. I must now hang my head in maple-syrup shame.
