Would I like a world where everybody is honest? Sure. But I, by far, prefer a world where everybody is free.

Elected governments should keep people happy. Heck, even unelected governments should if they want to remain "in charge" for long. Anyway, unfortunately people keep expending their money and votes in things that don't make them happier. Either way you have to trust "the people" to choose the right thing. Ergo you are screwed anyway.

You are right. That's why the *real* power is now in the hands of corporations. What would you prefer: a powerful "democratic" government or powerful corporations? One of both as to steal your money, you know. If taxes are lower, prices go up to match the market value people are willing (or able) to pay. Choose.

I think the point is that maybe someday you might only be able to
buy sophisticated electronic products which are full of DRM or any
other crap (rootkits, etc) and if by that day there is no open
source alternative (that meaning open documentation and the likes)
with at least the most important features and no patent problems,
nobody is going to be able to start from the scratch such a big project.
And that would suck big time.

Wait, that wasn't really funny at all. Maybe you had to be there.

Yeah, everybody know is funnier to test nuclear weapons in foreign countries like... Japan... for example...

As a matter of fact, I can't imagine any advanced civilization bothering with the kooks who live here and believe in such ludicrous stone age fantasies. Particularly kooks with nuclear weapons and who engage in water-boarding.
I do imagine some advanced civilization bothering with us, but probably just to make sure we extinguish, just in case we are not even able to do it our shelves and in the process we kill some more peaceful aliens like those poor Martians.

Sorry, I'm used to think the european way. And I think tax payers are far better investors in drug R&D, since they are not after the economical profit, just the new drugs. The case is quite different here in Europe, please take a look at http://www2.piratpartiet.se/an_alternative_to_phar maceutical_patents

  9. Re:It is not that simple on Report Says Patents Prevent New Drugs · · Score: 1

Well, it looks simple to me: drug companies make huge profits and expend more money on marketing than in R&D, wouldn't be nicer if all that money would be spent on R&D? In capitalism the means of production are operated for profit but in a supposed *free market*!
