That's a problem with individual teachers. I assure you not all teachers are like this. My science teachers encouraged me to look over all the work we would be doing.
I've never waited in line to buy a product as soon as it was released, yet I have waited in line for films.
Let's look at the film "Snakes on a plane". Going to see it as soon as possible means that the other people in the screen will most likely be enthusiastic about seeing the film. Everyone will cheer or boo etc. at the same time adding to the atmosphere. Going to see if a few days afterwards removes this and for me would make it less exciting.
The page included in this last IFRAME contained JavaScript code using XMLHTTP and ADODB (ActiveX Data Objects) functions to download and run an EXE file which was hosted on the same server. I assume it's because it uses activex to download and run the EXE.
He bought a copy of HL, got home and found out that the key was already in use. He emailed valve, within 24 hours he had a reply asking for pictures of the receipt and the discs, as proof he bought it. Once he'd done this, they sent him a new key.
I have helped a reasonable amount of people start off with computers. Even after a few years of use, the majority, if not all don't realise there is an alternative to windows.
Whenever I'm doing any design work, I tend to have a few windows open. These include an ftp client, firefox, dreamweaver, photoshop and googletalk to talk to people i'm working with. I close all conversations as soon as I've said what I want to and if I remember, close all tabs I'm not using.
Due to myself forgetting, I normally end up with 10 windows open. Lots of conversations. Multiple explorer windows.
Firefox usually has a few. Whenever doing web based stuff, it's normally lots of tabs with the same thing in.
Multiple windows aren't normally a problem, due to the magical "show desktop" button.
No one is forcing you to read or look at things you don't want to.

Since Windows is the primary gaming OS and vista is the latest release of Windows, I expect valve to include full support for Vista.
Something similar happened to a friend of mine.
