when I was a kid I wore braces. I also tested batteries with my tongue. One day I decided to connect a 9V battery (the one with the poles side by side) with my braces, to see what will happen. One pole on the upper side, the other on the bottom. There was a big shock, my field of vision became bright white for a split second, and I never tested batteries with any part of my face ever again.

After reading the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, I think when talking about the space elevator, we should always consider what happens if (when?) it fails. Space fountains seem much more appealing.

Wow. I live in Greece, and the belief here is that we are very backwards in terms of broadband. Affordable ADSL has been around for about 3 years, but now most people can get a 24mbit connection by a variety of providers, for around 20-22 euros. I suppose this is something around $30, so I guess it's pretty close to your example. I'd thought that, given that broadband was adopted in the US a LOT earlier than Greece, prices over there would be much cheaper.

  8. Re:The perfect driver on ATI Releases AIGLX Linux Driver · · Score: 1

Actually, it worked for some of us.

My card is a Mobility Radeon 9000, and after the upgrade to Gutsy, compiz wouldn't work, neither with ati/aiglx, nor with xgl/fglrx. However, using this driver made compiz load!

My problem is I used the install method, and did not create a deb package, because using this option creates a really tall window, in which I can only see redhat and suse. Maybe ubuntu was somewhere at the bottom of the window, but it didn't fit inside my screen... :(

The deal, to be finalised in Paris, follows years of talks between South Korea, Russia, China, the EU, the US, India and Japan.
Seems like your government is involved in fusion research
