  2. used to work on Is the Do Not Call System Working? · · Score: 1

When I lived in NC it worked quite well and all telemarketers stopped calling within 2 weeks of signing up. Occasionally, I would get a call and politely tell them to put me on the list. I moved to NY two years ago, immediately signed my number up on the list, but my phone never stops ringing. Seriously, the calls start at 902am every day and go right up to 9pm, with the occasional call after 9pm. On an average day I get about 12 calls. I work from home so imagine how much time is wasted if I actually pick up the phone to deal with these people. My answering machine does all the work, with some amusing messages when people don't realize they've connected to a machine. I don't have the time to explain to people every day and waste my valuable time that they're violating the do not call list. Friends and family members know this so all they do is speak into the answering machine with things like, "Dammit I'm not selling you stuff so pick up the damned phone." Now that we're into election season I get 15-20 calls a day. Yeah, I know the little politicians are exempt but it doesn't make it any less annoying. I suppose I get more of those calls now because I'm registered independent so I get democrats and republicans trying to get my vote.

  3. been done before on Professor Sells Lectures Online · · Score: 1

This is just a twist on the old way of doing things. When I was at the University of Nebraska from 88-92 they had a thing called Jon's Notes. Jon was a guy who hired people to take notes in many classes and then sold you those notes for $25 per semester. He always got permission from the professor beforehand to do so though. He had a very suscessful business and it had already been running for several years when I first got to college. It was also popular from the lazy student who couldn't be bothererd going to class to the kid that just had to have everything possible to get that A. Jon died somewhere around 95 (iirc) and it was taken over and the name changed but, as far as 2000 I knew the program was still up and running. The only difference here is that this professor is keeping all the money for himself, making it available online and in other formats than the paper versions we had in college.

  5. Re:George Lucas' Fear of Failure on Original Star Wars on DVD... Sorta · · Score: 1

For crying out loud! I've resisted buying any Star Wars sets solely because I knew Lucas was going to re-re-re-release over and over again but this is getting ridiculous. I was looking forward to this new set but now I'm not so sure I'm going to buy it. If he's only going to release another set next year with all six films, which is still speculation, he's not going to get any of my money. I'm sorry for all the fans that have bought the set a zillion times over but enough is enough. Lucas needs to stop living off of one story and move on already.
