  1. Re:I wonder if... on Amazon Fights Back Against NY Online Sales Tax · · Score: 1

This is "taxation without representation." I ddid not have a say in this law that was just passed in NY. I did not elect that official. I did not have a chance to vote on that law, or even the chance to vote to repeal this unfair tax. I am not represented at all in the NY government.

This is the main argument as to why America was started. Wars have been fought over this. This is the cornerstone of our country. They cannot levy taxes on non-NY citizens.

Let me take your car analogy a little further. Remember awhile back, Ford had 2 main Mustangs - the GT and the LX? You could get both of these with a 5.0L engine. Now, which one would you want to get if you want the faster of the two? That's right - you would get the LX. Why? Because the LX is the stripped-down leaner version. You had all this extra weight on the GT. It bogged down the car. Now why do the same to your OS? You want to pick the OS that does not bog down your machine.

They could, in theory, do that to you. However, I had an employer one time try and withhold payment, and I politely informed him that this was a 3rd degree felony according to Texas State Law 61.019. FAILURE TO PAY WAGES; CRIMINAL PENALTY, and that I would be filing a complaint with the Texas Atty General. Needless to say, I got my money the next day.

This was in Texas, so I do not know the righs in other states, but I guess that other states have the same type of laws (I hope).

  4. Re:this wouldn't be a problem for them on Vonage Allowed to Sign New Customers · · Score: 1
You got charged $300 for an ETF by Vonage? You might want to read the ToS. This is from Vonage's web site:

3.6 Disconnection Fee (Does Not Apply to Business Plus Customers). You will be charged a disconnection fee of $39.99 per voice line if your Service is disconnected, subject to applicable state and local laws. However, if your Service was activated on or after February 1, 2007 and is disconnected after two (2) years following your activation date, the disconnection fee is waived. If your Service was activated on or before January 31, 2007, the disconnection fee is waived if your Service is disconnected one (1) year following your activation date.
It looks like there is only a $39 fee - not too bad, really. Now, I know that the wireless companies charge a high ETF, but that is because they subsidize the cell phones so much. It takes about 8 months, on average, for a cell phone carrier to turn a profit on a new customer.

They do have something like this. It's called UMA. Currently, Tmobile has this in beta testing and should roll this out nationwide this year (called Hotspot@Home). This technology lets you connect to your wireless router at home with your cell phone. The change will be seamless between your router and cell towers.

  7. Labeled Inaccurate on T-Mobile Bans Others' Apps On Their Phones · · Score: 1

I have a few bones to pick about this article. 1. It was published on January 30, so not really news. 2. He says T-Mobile's slogan is "Get More". It hasn't been Get More for months. It is "Stick Together". 3. I have T-Mobile service and Google Maps. I have not had any problems with Google Maps. In fact I used it again today. 4. FTA: "instead of buying phones through T-Mobile, go direct to manufacturers or through independent retailers that offer non-T-Mobile-branded GSM phones". How does this help? How is an unbranded phone going to allow you to have network access and allow Google Maps to work? Please tell! 5. This author sounds like one of the many ignorant customers that has no idea what he is talking about. He probably expected T-Mobile tech support to troubleshoot all 3rd party applications, which of course is not going to happen.

You're absolutely right. I work for T-Mobile. As long as you have a handset that takes a SIM card, you can use any phone you like. We actually have a tech support department devoted to just helping people with unsupported devices. I help people all the time set up their GSM phones to use on our network (i.e. - internet and picture messaging). I believe Cingular is the same way...as is most of the rest of the world.
