Sure you might alse get free nationwide long-distance(for extra money) but once you exit your local calling area you get a horrific roaming charge(to be fair.. europe's roaming charges are bad too when you hop countries). Receiving calls while outside your local calling area is also expensive. In Europe "local" calling area(for cellphones) is generally the country you live in and not the couple of surrounding counties around you. If you want something like the whole east coast as your local calling area prepare to give out triple digits/month..

I pay about $49 a month for 350 minutes of nationwide longdistance with no roaming charges.

Of that $49 I think $10 of it is what I'm paying so that I don't get charged roaming or longdistance charges from anywhere in the U.S.

Maybe your boss is starting to feel obsolete?
In the computer industry, if you don't keep up with things as they are happening it can get easy to fall behind and end up stuck in the "I worked on (some old tech) for (some # of years) and noone is going to tell me how (something new) works!" or the "We have always done it this way, and we aren't about to change!".

It all boils down to this: Does your boss feel threatened?

About the possibility of using an emulated environment for PC games to make them easier to port.... He seemed to shoot down the idea due to performance issues.

Although I can see where there could be a performance hit, with today's fast processors I can't see how the hit would be very large considering you could write your game or program to one API and make it as tight and fast as possible. You also wouldn't have to worry about compatability concerns.

Actually the article did not say he had 10,000 songs. In fact, it stated that number more for shock value than anything else. The article actually said: "The 19-year-old's computer system--including monitor, keyboard, two CD burners, scanner and printer--was removed earlier this month from his dorm room after campus police determined he was operating an FTP server site that allowed visitors to download MP3 music files and even several full-length movies" And this: "The seized computer gear included 105 gigabytes of hard drive space, of which about 40GB were made available to visitors. Assuming the average music file occupies about 4MB, the student could have had approximately 10,000 songs available for download." Wow, that sentence has the words "Assuming". "average", "could", and "approximately" all together. So in reality, the person has 40 gig of files available. Depending on the format of the movie files and quality, one movie could me anywhere between 300 meg and 1.5 gig. So if the student had 10 movies, which could be several, or even 20. He could have a ton of non mp3 used space. But I digress, the point was, he probably didnt have anywhere NEAR 10,000 mp3's.
