  1. In other news... on Greenpeace Complains Game Consoles Aren't Green Enough · · Score: 3, Funny

None of the major environmental activist groups are 'fun enough', says gaming console manufacturers in a report released today. Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo Director of Technology, said: "We were shocked with Greenpeace; it was our biggest surprise." The group is described by the companies as the least 'fun' green firm.

Additionally, when asked for comment on the above story Miyamoto replied, "Yes, and?"

Try buying clearance computers from smaller stores. At The Source in Canada, they've still got a few laptops and a bunch of desktops with XP for sale. Even if the hardware lacks it's still probably cheaper to upgrade that.

The original lawsuit failed, but this is a new action. It's like faking a punt to try to make first down. You've made your decision, you've announced it and now everyone knows and there are people everywhere says "oh no!" and saying "that was perfect!", but all that matters is where the players are on the field. There's no time to react, everyone just needs to be in position.

I'm guessing that the issue about the lawyer's fees was seen as trivial by the RIAA, and they are somewhat unprepared for this action. Regardless of the outcome of this order, I find that most amusing.

  6. The CRA's IT Department on Computer Foul-up Breaks Canadian Tax Filing System · · Score: 3, Interesting

My mother works for the CRA, so I hear stories all the time about how they try to do things improperly.

A recent story is about the problems they're having with the change in the DST date.

Essentially, because the CRA is still on Windows 2000 systems they have to patch it themselves. So they write the fix, and then they instruct the accountants to leave their computers on and unsecured at the end of the day so that the IT guys can update their computers. Which means that anyone walking by could potentially have very easy access to any of the information about anyone in the Canadian Tax system, and it would be blamed on the individual whose computer they were using.

On top of that, the IT guys got about a third of the way through these updates before they realized that their patch was flawed and now they've decided to fix the problem with the following three measures:
    1) Have people set their appointments an hour off, so as to counteract the time change.
    2) When emails are sent they are now requited to post times as EST or EDT. My mother had a woman comment to her, "Like I know what time zone I'm in."
    3) Upgrade to XP when they can get a deal from M$ for a cheap enough price.

The DOT is worrying over Vista, and the CRA can't set the clocks on 2000. Sometimes I get worried about things up here.

To add to this, when polls are concluded and results tallied, Nintendo sends your Wii a message to tell you about it (possibly only if you predicted, I'm not sure). This is going to encourage people to go onto their Wiis to check the message, which means that they might as well check Everybody Votes because it takes 2 seconds and they know that there is a new poll. I can't do anything else when that blue light glows and I have no idea why not.

It's called a market skimming price strategy. I'm not really sure what your point was because everyone sees market skimming every day because it's done in every market. As the sales drop so does the price, you can even graph a direct relationship between sales numbers and product price in most cases.
