    IE 8 is still in Beta. I'm sure most folks remember what that means. As in not quite feature complete yet?

    Ixnay on the condescension there MSFanBoi2. While there are no hard and fast rules, beta software usually is feature complete (in as much as the term 'feature complete' applies to anything that dribbles out of Redmond).

    Given that current systems are 3 or more orders of magnitude slower than the stated amount, I'm pretty safe in saying that this announcement is meaningless outside of the lab. Kudos, but.... next!

    No, I think he means "install OS X without a license". Each copy of OS X is licensed to be installed on an Apple-branded machine.

    Much like every copy of Linux is licensed for end use without modification unless source is made available.

    Well, in the first instance I'm prevented from using what I've bought how I want to.

    In the second instance, I'm prevented from benefiting someone else's work. Note your dissemblance- I can modify Linux however I like without releasing the source, if the modification is for my use. Your comparison is invalid.

    Just going by what I've learned ABC. I'm sure it isn't universal, but you're perhaps not entirely typical?

    Massive guessing, but if you post here, you're possibly one of the delicious subset of women who think... y'know... a bit more like a man?

    If so, I can understand how a man's problem solving approach might be pointless for you. This also explains their next move (you'd be a rare and precious thing, in this scenario!)....

    But you must have female friends- When they unload on you, do you find your brainstorming approach helpful, or do they get frustrated?

    IMHO, the latter is more likely.

    Then (and this should be your mantra) show no interest at all in wooing.

    You are then one or two steps (either a shared interest, a cool quip, or a chiseled jawline) away from happiness.

    Don't get me wrong- I am as runtish as your average /.er, but I have shown to friends over and over how it works. Not a failure yet.

    I hope female and male astronauts are separately catered for.

    It is my hard-earned experience that when women begin to complain, the last thing they want is to-

    create lists of concrete things that are bothering them and brainstorm about practical ways to solve them.

    Generally, that is a man's solution. Women just want someone to nod, agree and sympathise.

    I now await my groupthink punishment, but for those for whom this is news, and who have access to females, try it. You'll be amazed, and will be lauded as 'a great listener'.

    These anti-doping organizations are going the extra mile and saying anything that isn't on the approved list is against the rules, regardless of scientific merit in using them. Why? Because the bogeyman that's why.

    There's an element of bogeyman, but I think it would be impractical to have a central body test and validate every possible drug, let alone decide where to draw the line on acceptability. And rich nations would be able to afford fancier stuff.

    In short, I don't think 'drugs bad', but feel that sport with a drugs free-for-all will have less integrity. I speak only as a sports fan.

    Permitting doping in any sport is the road to that sport's ruin. And justifying the proposal on the basis that the current restrictions fail to 'think of the children' is pretty perverse-

    Imagine you are the parent of a child who shows some kind of sporting talent early on- Do you encourage him, knowing that weird drug induced side-effects might overshadow his life?.... (...No, you don't)

    Nope, not gonna happen, at least where rich countries are involved. Current drug tests may not be perfect, but they act as a massive break on the worst of this corrosive problem.

    I'll be kind of gutted if you think I'm being anti-semitic, because I kinda pride myself on being 'right on' about shit in general. No- this is nothing to do with Israel being a Jewish state, and everything to do with it being a colony. Every colony that ever existed bullied the aborigines to a greater or lesser extent.

    Not to get too pop-psychological, but there's also an element of 'the abused becoming the abuser' about Israel.

    And unless you're Bruce Scheiner, encryption that you do write probably isn't safe either.

    Necessary but not sufficient- You'd also need to be a black-belt in Silicon whittling.
