Really? Due to your UID I'll take this seriously.
I bought the clock for it's durability (WHACK THE ALARM IN THE MORNING), but this worries me.
I'll go get a new red clock, and then see about modifying the blue one to use a red led for normal illumination and switch to blue when the alarm sounds.
Thanks!
My new alarm clock uses them to illuminate the display and it's been keeping me from getting to sleep at night.
I think I've devised a way to deal with it though -- window tint the display!
I've never been good at bulk memorization, but I am good at figuring out and understanding how things work and the relationship between them. I find this to be much more valuable than bulk memorization, but I am often hindered by memorization.
When you do have something memorized you can often fit it into solving a problem without much effort.
It would also be nice if I could remember the names of our customers:-/
While there are a few places where Chrome is different than Firefox that bother me it runs way smoother on Vista than Firefox. Even with lots of tabs with lots of junky, AJAX, and flash pages (MySpace, Homestarrunner, gmail,...) open.
That being said, Firefox runs a lot smoother under Linux than it does windows. Under windows it seems to drag down the whole system for some reason.
As far as crashes, I haven't experienced those with either in a while.
There were several girls majoring in CS with me in school (probably more than average, but being a small school...), but of those there were a few that told me that they didn't really like programming very much and went into related fields and others loved CS and programming.
I think I remember reading that one of the hard to compute problems that quantum computing would make short work of was breaking standard cryptography. If I in fact did read that, and if it was true, then quantum cryptography might still have points.
I agree. Starting with a version number > 1 is a lie and is very likely to make customers mad if/when they realize it. If they ask "why haven't I heard of your product before?" or google it you're screwed.
And even if you can keep the secret your product had better not have any bugs that you couldn't convince everyone has managed to stay hidden or is a new regression that was somehow missed in the latest round of testing.
Linus talked about this a while back -- he was considering moving to a date based nomenclature. I worry that if/when something that breaks backwards compatibility every does have to happen and it can't be moved to 3.0.0 things will get confuzled.
I always thought that combining the fabrication resources of both CPUs and GPUs was one of the big reasons for buying ATi. Why they have never gotten around to this really baffles me.
Maybe instead of CAPCHA's sites should start using those math problems from DARPA's really hard math problems since these people seem to be so good at solving complex computational problems.
Well Facebook tells me that Tom's IQ is 124 and that's like higher than 96% of other people's IQs, so shut up or what ever.
Ooooh, I think I see something shiny!
I love technology... but when it comes to safety and emergency systems, it's usually best to use the lowest-tech solution possible: cheaper, easier to repair/maintain, more robust, more reliable, and better understood.
I agree. Lately I've been thinking about the day when someone gets stranded on an island, actually builds a simple transmitter to ask for help, and no one can hear their plea because it's old fashioned analog radio.
Oh, they die before someone finds them. It's sad.
Clinton claims to have actually given orders to launch missiles from a submarine to take out Bin Ladin in Afghanistan but before it could be carried out Bin Ladin's position had become unknown again.
What surprises me the most is that Bin Ladin always seems very boastful about everything he did. Not to say that he might have been tempted or even compelled to lie once it became obvious that the US would go in and over throw the Taliban.
That's why I installed an electric vehicle grid in my driveway 2 years ago. Get on the ball, Bay Area!

The Milky Way is the center of the Universe because it is both the creamiest and chewiest part of the Universe.

She could have the camera transmit it's images to a screen positioned over her good eye so she could see what was going on.
ROCKET FROM THEIR SOCKETS!
I'm glad I read slashdot so I can learn about things like this.
Has there been any evidence that voters would appreciate it if they did?
You don't even need to use cat

The massive spinning pool could have a boat in it, with sailors -- the Futurama prophesy may come to pass!

Try "mavericks" since she grouped herself with McCain.
Just between you and me, I have no idea why anyone moderated that interesting. I was going for funny :-/

I'd just use the entire hard drive for swap and use RAM disks for my filesystems.
I agree. Make sure that your identifier names and comments can be easily understood by the overseas programmers that your job is outsourced to.
