  1. Re:But not the last on Some 7-11s Become Kwik-E-Marts · · Score: 1

I don't watch The Simpsons and had never heard of Kwik-E-Mart until I heard this story on the radio today. So if 7-11 decided to switch to Kwik-E-Mart, there would be a bunch of people who don't watch The Simpsons going "WTF?" when all the signs and products changed.

The iPhone shuffle already exists. It's called having a few shots at the bar and pulling out your cell phone. Better known as drunk dialing.

  6. What are the benefits of electronic voting? on Ask a "Star" of HBO's Voting Machine Documentary · · Score: 1

What exactly are the benefits of electronic voting systems? What's wrong with optical scan forms?

I have seen nothing but problems with the electronic systems. I expected election results to become available faster after the polls closed, but instead results took longer to get than when we were using punch cards. People talk about a paper trail making electronic systems OK to use. During the spring election, several precincts in my area ran out of paper for the machines. Some people waited in line well after those polling places closed, while others just gave up. The ease of use of these machines seems to be outweighed by their flaws.

  7. Re:A reason to vote Democratic? on Prepared for Next Year's Time Change? · · Score: 1
It appears an "out" was left in this legislation. From Wikipedia:

"Under Section 110 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the U.S. Department of Energy is required to study the impact of the DST extension no later than nine months after the change takes effect. Congress has retained the right to revert to the DST schedule set in 1986 if it cannot be shown that there are significant energy savings from an extension of DST or if the extension may prove to be unpopular with the American public. One potential issue is that some northern regions on the western edge of time zones will for the first time since the 1974-75 "almost year round" DST experiment have sunrise times that occur after 8am."

So there's a chance we won't have to deal with this for long.

  8. A reason to vote Democratic? on Prepared for Next Year's Time Change? · · Score: 1

President Bush signed this into law (Energy Policy Act of 2005). It was under the guise of energy conservation. Perhaps the Democrats can come up with a better solution.

The US census buereau says the 300 million mark will be reached 39 years after US population topped 200 million and 91 years after it exceeded 100 million. That makes US the third most populous country behind china and india.

No wonder this story was submitted anonymously. They couldn't spell bureau and don't understand the concept of capitalizing proper names.
