And since a human has to program the machine, the machine cannot be a better musician than the person or persons who programmed it. As a programmer, I can tell you that oftentimes the results a good program generates surprise even the author.

Anyway, in this case, the program has been trained using 300 real songs. That's where more of the artistic nature of the program lies, and not necessarily with the programmer.

  2. Sounds about right on Microsoft Extends XP For Low-Cost Laptops · · Score: 1
Though one way to look at it is that MS wants to deny Linux showtime on the ultra-cheap laptops scene, a more probable explanation is:

Microsoft has realized there is still more juice it can squeeze out of XP without affecting Vista sales, so they're going for it. Out of all the OSes out there, Vista would obviously be the worst choice to run on these laptops, even if only because of power consumption issues (though that's just the start of their woes).

Anyway, let's say the ultra-cheap laptop idea really takes off (there's still a big IF on it), it would be one of the best opportunities yet for Linux to stay neck-to-neck with the competition (in the said hardware class).

--after Islamists told Wikileaks that they would be killed for hosting the film. Most users of Slashdot are intelligent enough to know the difference between Muslim and Islamist/Islamic Activist. However, the distinction is not as well understood among the general populations of both the Western and non-Western worlds. That's the sad part of it all. The resulting misconceptions about and misinterpretations of Islam are the cause of most of the violent and non-violent extremism shown by both sides.

For those who care to know, the term Islamist, when used in such a context, is generally accepted to refer to religious activists. Most of these activists claim to be Muslims yet do not act according to the laws of Islam. Now you people out there could either help educate misguided Muslims and misinformed non-Muslims in this regard, or you could go on talking stuff about Islam that has nothing to do with the religion and cannot be found anywhere in its authenticated texts.

Yep, this has worked for me too. In keyboards like mine, there are small plastic/rubber fittings under all the keys (between the keys and the contact sheets, in place of springs). When I disassembled my keyboard, I was a bit clumsy and most of the fittings popped out of place. It took around two minutes to place them back properly after I was done with the washing, but I lost one of them and now my Power key doesn't work (deliberate choice).
