Yeah... I'm a big fan. There's an interesting difference between the original and the Redux, but they're both quite good.
Hm, I think you've used all the adjectives I would - and yeah, Kilgore is a great character. Kurtz is also rather interesting.

It's also somewhat amusing to see actors like Ford and Fishburne in these smaller roles before they got really big....

That aside, the iPaq is pretty sexy - and a good device, if your tastes run that way. Me, all I want is everything my Palm IIIxe (still the best Palm-made PalmOS device out there) gives me - addresses, calendar, Rogue, and RTF word processing. (rock on, Palm Portable Keyboard!)

The only new device I've seriously considered is the ravishingly sexy HandEra 330. Yee-ow.

I still don't dig the idea of contacts. I'll keep my spectacles, thankyouverymuch. Besides, it's sometimes handy to be able to defocus everything further than an arm's length away.

Well, someone is clearly not an obsessive PDA geek.

Being one myself, however, I'd wager both of my shoes that "PalmIIIxe-compatible" means the body of the device works with III/VII-series peripherals (PalmPix, PPK(ooh), maybe even the various palm robots). Presumably, then, there is also the same kind of serial port. I think this is an excellent move on the manufacturer's part.

I'd like to note also that in my far from humble opinion, the IIIxe remains the best PalmOS device made by Palm.

    Sunday-driving mode...

One of my favorite "simple amusements" in SimCopter used to be setting up a city in SCURK that's just a circular road and a few buldings and loading it as a user level in SimCopter. Then I'd get into a helicopter (occasionally an f-16 if i was feeling particularly stressed) and activate the "Out for a sunday drive" code that puts your persepective behind one of the cars in the city (while leaving control). Then I could watch myself flying around, terroriziing the city, holding up traffic by landing in the road, etc.

    Easily amused....

Of course, I haven't played SimCopter at all this week... it feels... odd.

An easier way for Windows users to switch to the Linux version, than trying to return their Windows version of the game and get their money back.

Some software these days comes with a Mac and a PC version on the same CD - assuming that the user only has one or the other. So I guess you could just slap the linux version on as well.

It'd be great if you run both Windows and Linux. You only pay for the game once, but you can pay it no matter which OS you're in at the moment. That seems fair.

Of course, size is a factor....

  17. The book on Review: Planet of the Apes · · Score: 1

I read the book several weeks ago and found it to be very well-written and somewhat disturbing. And I was pleased to see, last night in DC's Uptown theater(DC residents will know how much buttock that theater prods), that some of the book was well-preserved in the film.

Several reviews I read seemed to disdain the ending as a cheap sequel setup. But I saw it as a good adaptation of the book's ending. The entire movie was good, though - highlights included the old rich orang and his young chimp wife, the references to the original (damn dirty human!), the apes themselves, the interspecies romance, and the rain of flaming monkeys. Sorry, apes. And the music was pretty good.

I really recommend the book - they've republished it with a cover that I don't like, but in paperback. Definitely worth the US$6.99 .

My prediction for this discussion: Original purists vs book purists vs people who loved this movie. Also, extended arguments about time and space and which planets were where when. My friends and I coudln't really come to a conclusion about that, despite an hour's worth of argument. I guess we'll just wait for the inevitable sequel (which I can't see as being as good).

    Ooook.
