So true that freedom includes being able to walk around with infective diseases and give them to others and then blame them for catching that TB from you. Just like to be totally safe from vehicles means staying far away from roads, being safe from someones choice to not have medical means staying away from all people.
And when you hit someone and turn them into a quadriplegic, society has to pay for the poor guys medical, lost wages, etc. Unless you guys just leave them to die.
Probably got confused by the guy up the page who was proud to carry $5K liability. 10K is really ridiculously low. Here liability doesn't end with insurance either though under-insured motorist protection is compulsory so if you hit me and your insurance doesn't cover it, mine will kick in and my insurance will sue you for the money. (courts are more reasonable here so usually don't have to worry about excess punitive damages) Here the government doesn't want to have to cover shortfalls so insists on higher liability. Not sure what it is now, perhaps $500K. My liability is $2 million which would be split if more then one person made a claim. It also covers me if your insurance comes up short. I'd have higher if it was as cheap as it used to be. Generally I'm a good driver but like everyone I have bad days, tired, stressed out or just plain old spaced so the possibility of injuring someone is real.
How the hell can $30,000 be considered adequate insurance? Would that even cover the ambulance ride to emergency down there? I feel bad only carrying $2 million in the land of govt. healthcare as if I ever put someone in a wheelchair, I'd like to cover their expenses.
Probably thinking authoritarian, which the extremes on both sides seem to go to. Though looking at communist China, the argument can be made that the political wings wrap around, eg go far enough left and end up at the extreme right.
In 99+% of cases they can refuse to continue treating a patient who is refusing to follow treatment and usually refuse to treat a patient for most any reason (can't outright refuse to treat someone based on race and such). Both here and down there, some Doctors are going to be on salary and have less choice. Just because most Doctors get paid per patient doesn't mean a Doctor in the military for example, gets paid per patient or has has as many choices. I'd guess down there even more Doctors are on salary and have less choice. It's like any other trade, if you work for yourself, you have more choice then if you have a boss telling you what to do.
I don"t understand your point. This is a universal healthcare system, Canada, where each Province is in charge of their healthcare following minimum guidelines put out by the feds who also redistribute money from the have Provinces to the have nots. Any system has administrators who might have a policy of treating everyone which people on salary have to follow if they want to keep their job. Generally the administrators here are Doctors themselves but in eg a prison, it might be the Warden ordering the Doctor employed by the prison to treat all inmates.
Shouldn't that be... compare number of bankruptcies... jobs destroyed. Don't understand how you Americans worship people who game the system, destroy jobs and outsource wealth to your enemies/competitors, though I guess being smart enough to be born in a position to get a large inheritance does take skill.
Of course they can refuse to provide care for patients. Of course like any other industry, your boss might give you a choice of providing care or not having a job. Since many (most?) Doctors are self employed that doesn't matter to them but if you're working for a hospital, a clinic, a cruise ship line, in a camp etc, you have to do what you're employed to do. Generally Doctors do have bargaining power though as there is often a shortage of them. At least here in BC, universal health care just means the government gets billed instead of individuals or their insurance and that the government sets the prices, even for those without medical. And if you don't pay your premiums here, you're not covered. Premiums are about $80 a month for a single person making $30,000 or more, subsidized if making less.
Actually the "intelligent design" school of creation does make a prediction. It predicts that humans are designed intelligently. The problem is that all the evidence is against that. Octopus has a much better eye then humans. Our spines are horrible and our knees are also a crappy design. At that there is just so much of our physiology that looks like it just happened rather then being designed that as a theory "intelligent design" is on about the same level as the flat Earth. Worth a couple of minutes of consideration and that's about it.
The history of the germ theory of disease is also interesting and should be taught. The first evidence, little critters that could only be seen in a microscope was denied by some famous people who refused to even look as it was impossible. At first all the evidence for the germ theory was statistical in nature, more people died who drank from certain wells that had leaky cisterns full of shit nearby, denied by people who didn't want to pay to fix the infrastructure. Then the evidence that the closer to the dissection room a patient was, the more likely to die from infection was denied by Doctors and Surgeons who didn't want to wash their hands and considered wearing blood covered clothing a badge of competency. And no, they weren't going to try to be clean to see if it cut down on deaths. Denial-ism for trivial reasons and now the scientific consensus is that some disease is caused by invisible little critters
Of course, people who appear to be in the latter group are probably much more likely than average to actually be in the first group. It is certainly useful, therefore, for legal authorities to find out who the people in the latter group are, so that they can be subject to increased scrutiny (in a non-public way).
I guess we should scrutinize all the men who look at porn as they're more likely to rape a woman or in some cases, a man. They're also much more likely to be abusers as most rapists have looked at porn.
The way Github works is if someone wants to contribute, they fork the project, make changes and commit to their tree and then request that the original project pull the new commits. I'd guess the problems are like with patches, not rebased on current head, commits that aren't specific enough like mixing white space changes with code changes in a project that likes these separate, not responding to suggestions to fix their work etc and then leaving the pull request open. Personally I like the old fashioned posting patches to mailing lists or issue trackers
Huh? this is pure capitalism, where the goal is to subvert the free market and use your capital to get into position to collect rent on as much as possible. It's having capital that allows buying laws, treaties, regulations etc to do away with competition and allow the maximum rent collecting. It's also capitalism that buys the best propaganda ever produced as shown by your comment.
There are wild plants that supply most nutritional requirements. Take wild hemp seed, has all the vital amino acids, all the essential oils, as well as most B vitamins. For energy density there are various wild roots as well as nuts that pack a lot of energy and many wild greens are much higher in vitamins and minerals then cultivated greens. Cultivated plants such as head lettuce are mostly water with generations of selective breeding for looks rather then nutrition. Even tomatoes have suffered from the selective breeding to make them good lookers and shippers rather then tasty and nutritious. Vitamin D and creatine are synthesized in our bodies. As for meat, most people eat more then they need and it would be more sustainable to switch away from cows and sheep to pigs and chickens or even better, insects.
I heard an interesting talk not long ago where the claim was that eating bacon (actually all pork products) is better for the environment then some veggies such as lettuce and especially cows and sheep. Chicken was another meat that was potentially much more environmentally friendly.
I'll note that the political compass puts Hitler just right of center, https://www.politicalcompass.o... which seems to agree with what you're saying, namely a mixture of right and left wing politics. The nationalism and racial bigotry do seem to be a right wing thing with the left authoritarianist repressing people for economic reasons rather then racial reasons. As you say, the power hungry authoritarian has no problem adjusting to keep their power as that is the most important thing.
While you're correct about being authoritarian, you're making a mistake in thinking that authoritarianism is different then conservative vs liberal. They're actually different axises on the political chart. You can have authoritarian conservatives, libertarian conservatives, authoritarian liberals (the American meaning of liberal) and libertarian liberals. Most successful politicians have been fairly authoritarian and to the right of the spectrum. Check out the political compass, even has a nice quiz you can take which will show where on the chart you are. http://politicalcompass.org/ and look at the chart of the 2012 US election, http://politicalcompass.org/us...
Huh? I'm thinking of the case where someone has lost the lawsuit but has inadequate insurance and inadequate funds.

My business isn't big enough to qualify for the government handouts unlike some.

Capitalism is alive and well, with the people with the most capital using it to acquire more. What's dead is the market.

Most people don't know what pedophile means and think it means child molester, which is on the same level as thinking heterosexual means rapist.
And not one person in Australia, the Americas or I believe Africa.

West end of Vancouver. It was a time of cops coming down hard on dissenters culminating in the gastown riots.
