he can get a job throwing darts at a stock market listing and out perform most mutual funds. Only limitation is the monkey might not be as good as wall street at monkey business, ie buying off politicians and constructing wall-street always wins con jobs.
You should be careful using the M word as some Orangutans are known to twist peoples heads off when called that, especially a certain librarian.
We're talking about Orangutans, perhaps the best escape artists ever and when someone keeps escaping from a cage there's a very good chance they don't want to be there. Google "orangutan escape" for many stories. One I liked was from a zoo keeper about different Great Apes handed a screw driver. The chimp would take it and do everything but use it as a screwdriver. The Gorilla would back away from the threat, then try to eat it. The Orangutan would nonchalantly hide the screw driver and then later at night, disassemble his cage.
Most Orangutans spend their time attempting and often succeeding at escape, often in ingenious ways. eg Fu Manchu, http://www.mnn.com/earth-matte... or Ken Allen, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K.... Google has many more examples. Seems that anyone who doesn't like being locked up will attempt to escape and if as smart as an Orangutan, succeed.
Yet the machinery that the Luddites were protesting led to 3 or 4 generations of chronic unemployment with hanging as the solution for kids stealing a loaf of bread, poor houses that were total hell and all kinds of other horrors. The only saving grace was the new world where people were encouraged to go and steal some land from the people that were already there. Things were good though if you were smart enough to be born into the right class, lots of servants, work was something you'd never actually do and it was called a golden age.
Legally you can call yourself whatever name you want as long as you're not doing it for fraudulent reasons. Of course actually impersonating someone is often for fraudulent reasons.
It's pretty simple, the cops are the good guys so they're allowed to do bad stuff as it is always for a good reason. We're the bad guys so if we do bad stuff it must be for a bad reason. Really we should just be thankful we haven't been thrown in prison yet.
Any which way it's a crazy way to try to prevent accidents. Around here (BC) yellow lights are usually longer then 3 seconds depending on the road and average speed of traffic and red light camera has to catch you entering the intersection on a red light as you might have entered the intersection on green, perhaps to make a left and had to wait. As well many of the red light cameras are actually fakes, they have only a few actual cameras that they rotate into different intersections (all high accident zones). A flash works almost as well as a real camera to discourage running red lights as long as there is a reasonable chance of a fine. If revenue is needed, it should be raised by taxes or fees.
Aspirin is a bad example of losing a trademark as Bayer lost the trademark, along with the heroin trademark as part of war reparations after WWI. Aspirin (with a capital A) is still a Bayer trademark here in Canada and quite a few other countries http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A...
You mis-understand the Michelson & Morley experiments. At the time science had shown that light had certain properties, namely traveling as a wave, things like interference patterns showed the wave like nature of light. All the current evidence showed that waves needed a medium to travel in so it was postulated that space was full of a mysterious substance known as aether. Questions came up such as is the aether stationary or moving? Can we use it to measure the motion of the Earth? and such. To test these ideas meant accurately measuring the speed of light and towards the end of the 19th century better apparatus was made to accurately measure the speed of light. Michelson & Morley used the most up to date apparatus to measure the speed of light expecting to get different numbers depending on things like the time of day and time of year as the speed of light relative to them should vary. They got totally unexpected results, namely that the speed of light was constant. This resulted in having to rethink the whole idea of aether and eventually led to better theories. They were not skeptics but trying to advance knowledge and were honest enough to recognize that current theory failed in the face of experimentation. Now if someone can show an experiment that shows that the greenhouse affect doesn't exist, that would be similar and then we can go on to figure out why the Earth is 30 degrees warmer then its black body temperature etc. This is much harder now as so many experiments have been done that shows the greenhouse affect does exist rather then we only lately have got good enough instruments to accurately measure temperature.
The scientist that proves that AGW is a lot of HooHaw (technical term) will win a Nobel prize. It should be simple to do really, and the Koch Brothers should be able to provide for his or her future so they don't have to worry one iota about the mean scientists at Universities "cowing" them. Simply shifting that money should do the trick.
They have and all that happens is another skeptical scientist gets turned into a non-skeptic. The best example is Richard A. Muller, Professor if Physics at Berkley who was very critical of climate science and was sponsored by the Koch brothers to do exhaustive research on climate science and ended up convinced it is real, humans are mostly responsible and that prior estimates of global warming are correct. Not very good results for the deniers. Use Google for lots of results or start here with a fairly reputable publication, http://www.csmonitor.com/Scien...
Wait until one of your political parties gets lessons from one of the American parties and then manages to get in (probably by breaking the law and then crying about how everyone does it and they're getting picked on so they'll throw out those election laws that were designed to make things fair).
The 13th or 14th century saw the start of peasant revolts all over Europe due to the black death increasing the value of labour and the 1% refusing to raise wages even though costs went up due to the shortage of labour. Not one of them succeeded. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P...
My wife by treaty is supposed to be free to walk into the States with a backpack full of whatever. It's damn near impossible for her to do that now and is likely to get shot or at least imprisoned if she doesn't cross over at a border checkpoint. Jay treaty and whatever the treaty was that ended the War 0f 1812 which reaffirmed the Jay treaty and as treaties override everything except the American Constitution her not being allowed to walk into the USA is illegal, but then the American government (and mine) doesn't care much about following the law.
America did the same (wholesale deportation of certain ethnic groups), only difference was they finished earlier then the USSR and did a better job of genocide.
Creation happened on Oct 23rd at Noon in the year 4004BC (Don't ask about which timezone), so the posters math is bad and it should be more like 6018 years ago (too lazy to figure out the fraction)
Perhaps beaks evolved via bills. I believe duck billed platypuses and some duck billed dinosaurs also had teeth, though small. It's a shame the fossil record is so sparse as some things we'll never know for sure.
People forget that there is a lot of randomness and luck in evolution. Disasters happen (volcanoes, asteroid strikes are some extreme examples) causing genetic bottlenecks. If the birds with half beaks and teeth had the bad luck to get wiped out in a natural disaster, doesn't matter how much of an advantage they had, the ones lucky enough to further away from the disaster reproduce. In some ways it's survival of the luckiest as well as the fittest and since luck seems to be just a random process, it can't be selected for.
Godwin's law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one's opponent) with Nazis – often referred to as "playing the Hitler card". The law and its corollaries would not apply to discussions covering known mainstays of Nazi Germany such as genocide, eugenics, or racial superiority, nor, more debatably, to a discussion of other totalitarian regimes or ideologies[citation needed], if that was the explicit topic of conversation, because a Nazi comparison in those circumstances may be appropriate, in effect committing the fallacist's fallacy. Whether it applies to humorous use or references to oneself is open to interpretation, because this would not be a fallacious attack against a debate opponent.
From the same source as yours. We're having a discussion about the current Authoritarian regime ruling Canada and how they want to spy on the citizens they are supposed to be working for.
Well Jews are pretty accepted now as being honorary Christians. The list of atheists is pretty slim when limited to successfully elected politicians, especially at the Federal level, which is why I mentioned most of the country rather then all the country.
Didn't Bush claim that God told him to attack Iraq and also compare it to the crusades? Can a non-christian get elected President and in most of the country elected to pretty well anything? I mean in practice rather then theory.
Are we going to consider every crackhead cracking to be a terrorist attack? Especially when they've been begging for help, even being thrown in jail. Out of the terrorists I've actually met, most have been members of a Christian sect (mostly blew up train tracks, power lines, burnt stuff and took of their clothes) and Sikh (does blowing up a wedding because your daughter is marrying a christian count) including one of the accused in the Air India bombing. Most of the victims of terrorism I've met have been terrorized by the government and church working together but being native it was considered acceptable to remove them from their families and terrorize them into being good Christians..
Even more if you consider the Indians, Mexicans, Spanish and British to be invaders of the land that God gave to the Americans (manifest destiny and such). There's also the little wars like the pig war where strictly speaking the British partially occupied an American Island and the Union Jack still flies alongside the Stars and Stripes.
When did America ever overthrow a King? And which nations King? Seems so many Americans think they had a successful revolt where they marched on London, burned Parliament and hung the King when in reality they seceded from the British Empire (or whatever it was officially called) with lots of French help and even then they couldn't even beat the local French, who also helped burn down the White House a few decades longer.

That is not an example of Godwin as the comparison is on topic (authoritarian regime). A Godwin would be comparing your statement to Hitler or Nazism.
