    When companies were owned by individuals, not stockholders.
    Look at Ford as an example. Got sued (and lost) by stockholders for paying his workers too much. He then bought out all the stockholders and could pay his workers well with the idea that they would then have enough money to buy a Ford as well as having a decent life.
    Also it is still like that with small non publicly owned companies.

    In Canada if they arrest you they only take fingerprints and if you are not convicted they are supposed to throw out your prints.

    Seems the States do have some power as long as 2/3 to 3/4 agree.

    Not sure which Olympics, but it seems to me they got very uptight about the Olympic mountains and Olympia city http://www.ci.olympia.wa.us/ in Washington State. And since these places are so close to Vancouver I wouldn't be surprised to see it again.

    Around here the speed limit includes something about road conditions.

    Just run the installer until it breaks when it hits a 16 bit executable, go to %TEMP% (or where ever it gets unpacked), copy the unpacked install somewhere and unzip this http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/windows/win32inst.zip over the unpacked install and you have replaced the 16 bit parts with 32 bit parts. Then run setup.

    I used to go to the States legally until the mid 80's (86?) when the American customs informed me that they had changed their rules and any kind of criminal record meant never allowed in the States again (without a waiver) and I better never come back. Also that the States did not recognize a Canadian pardon. And yes my record is minor and quite old. Gotta love a country that never forgives what a stupid 18 yr old did.

    I don't know if it is the mercury or just the stress of having 3 live viruses injected at the same time but I do know that my son changed after getting his second MMR shot. Worst was he knew it was happening as he laid in his crib repeating the couple of dozen words he knew.
    Ended up he was just about finished kindergarten before he restarted talking and interestingly after we cut him of of milk.
    And he was very frustrated with not talking.

    You have it contained in an environmental variable, perhaps named TZ and just change the variable. All well written programs read $TZ and calculate whether it is daylight time.

    Looking quickly in a local flyer, Fujifilm 50 pack of CD-R is $24.99 so after levy about 21 cents CDN. For comparison Maxwell 100 pack 16x DVD +R is $31.99.

    All blank CDROMS, CDRWs are covered by the tarif.

    Canada only signed the Berne convention in 1998 and now we have to update our laws to be in line with the Berne convention as well as WIPO agreements. I guess this is part of the reason for all the BS coming out about Canada being a haven for pirates etc.

    Not yet. Right now they take a cut from blank CDs, blank tapes and such. This is why blank DVDs are cheaper then blank CDrs.

    The problem is that Bush doesn't know that Canada is the states biggest trading partner.
    Remember when he was first voted in he thanked Mexico first (traditionally Canada is the first foreign country that a newly inaugurated President mentions) and called Mexico their biggest trading partner.
    Shit, after 9/11 he couldn't even be bothered to thank us for putting up all those air travelers in our homes.

    Actually in Canada it is illegal for you to copy a CD for your friend (it is distributing). What is legal is to let your friend make a copy for their self.
    Really this is all about forcing us to have a DMCA type law on the books.

    Not with our current government (our current Prime Minister worships George W. Bush) though the fact that right now they have a minority government will slow them down.
    What is really scary is if in the next election they win a majority.

    Well considering Puritans were behind the English civil war which ended up with King Charles losing his head I don't know if you could call them pacifist. (Quite a few American Puritans even returned to England to fight in the civil war).
    Also it seems that the USA expanded to the west partly through colonization. (as well as purchase and war)

    also has anyone ever seen a CFL that worked on a dimmer? i have them in a few rooms now and they only work with normal bulbs
    I've seen CFLs advertised that work with dimmers and a quick check at http://www.gelighting.com/na/home_lighting/ask_us/ faq_compact.htm
    says yes there are special ones that work fine with a dimmer.

    Well they had to amend the constitution to make alcohol illegal so why wouldn't they need to change the constitution to make pot illegal?
