Let's face it -- it's the age where news hits the web days or weeks before it can ever see the light of day in print media. I used to always buy post-E3 mags, but for the last few years it's been easier (and faster) to check online sources that update the *day of* the event and not weeks later.
Using demo disks just delayed the inevitable and put the price of the magazines out of reach for those of use interested only in the news content and not in the demos. I'm surprised XBox Magazine still carries demo disks.
I'm even more surprised that GamePro is still running. Maybe I'm too old to be their target audience, but it certainly feels as if they are targeting 14 year olds with ADD. My brain dies a little each time I read it.
"Notably, he does not plan on distributing movies online, calling online distribution a 'rathole.'"
And he also said he'd never release the original trilogy on DVD.
And now he has... in various different incarnations.
Sounds a lot like some of the issues the earlier 360's had. Hopefully we won't get a repeat performance of the PS2 and 360 launch problems.
The 360 needs good ventilation, and it looks like the PS3 will be no different. For those with both systems, this could make arranging your entertainment center a bit tricky.
Gears of War has been a very hyped game for the 360 console, but I'm not sure if it really applies in Japan -- at least, as much as Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. I would think that those two RPGs are the bigger games in the East, particularly given the people involved in their production.
So far, there are a handful of nice game on the PS3. The big one for me will be Final Fantasy XIII, but I don't see that hitting North America for a couple years yet, as localization for FF games generally takes many months and we've yet to have any indication that FFXIII is anywhere near being close to completion.
I'll buy a PS3 when the price comes down. For now, its a redundant system for me. Each system has some exclusives, but overall I don't feel the urge to own both Next-Gen consoles. There are plenty of 360 games to keep me busy and I'm sure the Wii will entertain for a while as well.
Oblivion was a great game on the 360 and I'm glad to see it get a PS3 version as well. If you haven't already played it on the 360 or PC -- give it a go, it's a wonderful game that feels very next-gen (probably moreso on the PS3).
It's certainly a game that deserves a PS3 port.
