My friend and I make music under his alias of "Pimp Daddy Welfare". I should note that it is vulgar, offensive, awful music. But we're doing this for fun, and care more about having listeners than having CD buyers....
We've had our own personal webpage for almost 2 years, and early on during the summer of 1999, we signed up with mp3.com. At first it was great... our songs were rapidly climbing the charts, we were getting lots of exposure. Even a few CD sales...
until one day, our song "I Fucked Her" broke the top 100 on the charts. It made it up to #87. We were very pleased with ourselves for the next few days until MP3.com had a sudden change of mind about censorship over musicians. They decided to remove all songs listed under the "Hardcore Rap" section from the listings in all the other charts. (which includes ALL of Pimp Daddy Welfare's music)
"I Fucked Her" dropped from 250 downloads per day to 40 in one night. We've emailed MP3.com about this, and they wont reason with us at all. We tried to re-upload songs into different categories, but the watchful vultures at mp3.com quickly deleted them. They've been deleting songs ever since, and last time i bothered to look there were only 3 of our songs left.
our own personal site is doing better than ever though. We probably sell between 10-20 cds per month, and get around 150 hits per day. Not too shabby for a couple of white boys from Ohio.
so yeah....screw mp3.com. it's good for exposure, but you're better of doing your own thing, or dealing with a down-to-earth mp3 site such as the wonderfully non-commercialized Free-Music.com.
ok...i'm done venting now....whew...
if you'd like to see our crappy little site, then come check it out. =)
My friend's little brother has worn a trenchcoat to school for quite awhile... and shortly after the Columbine incedent happened, some kids started harrassing him...
One girl was bothering him at lunch with ridicule like "So, are you going to bring guns to school and kill everyone too?", and Justin being the sarcastic little guy that he is came back at her with "Yeah, and you're gonna be the first one I go after!"
He got suspended for 3 days for this, and i guess this is actually more of making a threat than writing a story...but it seems like kids can't say anything without it being taken seriously by some anal administrator.
btw, since i graduated my high school a mere 2 years ago They've added over 20 video cameras and hired a full-time security guard....sad...
One of his best dubbing jobs and biggest roles was Goldenboy. (One of the best comedy-anime titles ever!) but you can usually find Doug Smith in just about every video released from ADV. Just watched Compiler last night (hey everyone, the 2 main females are named Compiler and Assembler!) and Doug had quite a few amusing lines on a TV in the background....
...is that these "Commercials" are becoming too high-tech for their own good! It's going to turn out just like in Futurama where we'll all have commercials in our dreams! =)
What would it be like if a band only allowed a bad quality version of their song played on the radio so people would be less temped to record it, and forced to go buy a CD if they want high quality...
oh well...i don't like them anyways, but i'd respect them if they weren't so much doing this only as promotion and for the money...
Actually Doom could be considered "MORE" christian than Doom sine you don't have the option in doom to join the demon in their conquest of the earth. =)
::: I liked it when they played videos, but do you know how much videos cost to produce? A 3-minute video costs much more than a 30-minute edit job (Real Rules & Road World). When you have to fill up 24/7 creative programming is important, cheap programming is very important, and quality programming is what HBO does.:::
But MTV isn't a video producer, so they aren't making those 3 minute videos. They are the producers of their own shows (Real World, Road Rules, etc) so wouldn't it be most likely be cheaper for them to play videos? You are right though.
How about the video for Mr. Slim's "Praise You" as an example of production cost? hehehe...

my personal favorite no name dubber : Doug Smith!

on a somewhat related note (all these hacker stories lately), Goldstein gives his 2 cents on the "MTV - Wanna Be a Hacker" Special.
MTV'S "TRUE LIFE" - A REVIEW
oops. i messed that up. sorry.
meant to link to shoutcast, but oh well....
It would be nicer if their "webcast" was done with something like instead of using Real media.
What would it be like if a band only allowed a bad quality version of their song played on the radio so people would be less temped to record it, and forced to go buy a CD if they want high quality...

some CTF would be nice! One base is heaven, the other is hell! =)

:::From my personal point of view I prefer an AMD CPU than the Cyrix they are planning to use in their sub-200 PC. ::: who doesn't? =)
but anyways, it would be nice to have the extra option of a celeron processor too. Pay an extra $25-35 or so...

Sunday night @ 2 AM (actually it's early monday morning) is the only hour of MTV worth my time anymore...
AMP
I'm sure their little preview of Cyberfest 99 is more interesting than this "hacker special" thing.
