At the end of the day data accumulated by the company is an asset. When they go into recievership they have to sell off all their assets in order to pay what they owe, this includes whatever data they have accumulated on their clinets. IANAL but I doubt there is much you can do about it, if they said they weren't going to pass on your information while they were trading, but then go bankrupt and do pass it on, you can hardly sue a company that no longer exists.
I think the software would have to be very specialised to use the board as by the sounds of things the program needs to be written specifically to use this board and not just be threaded.
The demos looked really cool. I think it is a great idea for a small tablet to be able to recognise my handwriting and work on it in the background. I like the idea of my mobile phone and pda and desktop all acting together. This is the way things are going to go, I five years we'll wonder how we survived when all our devices didn't have a permanent connection and could synchronise data automatically wherever you are. Yes it means storing some data in a public place, but we used to do that when we all used terminals to access a singal machine, so what's the difference ? Before long we started having our own machines and before long we will run our own central servers from home, not everyone will, but some of us, you can bet on that.
Because of the way Open Source is developed it will have less bugs than some commercial software, but it will never be developed to a formal specification using tried and tested Software Engeering principles. Commercial software (i.e. closed source) benefits from not being developed in a chaotic way and can be more secure. Techniques such as the Cleanroom approach, software inspection can lead to almost zero-defect software. Which is something I don't think Open Source can ever really achieve. The use of formal methods for specification and verification does achieve secure systems, the only way Open Source can match commerical systems developed in this way is for them to be developed in a similar fashion. Sure, you can still give the source away, but developement does need to be centralized for these techniques IMHO.
The article suggests that it is difficult to track the asteriods and see if there is a chance they could hit Earth. Isn't this something that could be done SETI@home style ? I'd much rather be looking for asteriods that could kill millions of people than looking for aliens.
Given that we've all been hyperlinking for ages and BT has said nothing isn't it a case of well, tough, if BT wanted to enforce the patent they should have done it ages ago. IANAL BTW.
Realisticly though, the only space we are going to explore is in our own solar system so we should concentrate our efforts here. Yes, I'd like to see a man on Mars and I'd like to go to the moon, but isn't radio astronomy unnecessary for this "short" distance ?
Not at all, I see no real evidence for there being a "god". I am amazed by the number of people who are so desperate to find out "why we are here" and "where we came from". To this I ask - "If we had definite proof one way or the other about the creation of the universe, would your life be different ?". Of course it wouldn't be. To be honest I don't care, the fact is the human race exists and we may as well enjoy ourselves instead of spending our time trying to find the answer to a question we don't even really understand.

But Sledgehammer is the code name for AMD's 64bit chip, nothing to do with the P4.
Anyone else notice they are using slashcode ?
Yes it is fixed and a patch is available on www.windowsupdate.com for 98 and 95.
Mir is also testament to the fact that the Russians can build something that can still be used way beyond its originally planned lifespan.
Sound is handled by a sound card,
Graphics is handled by a graphics card and now...
processing is handled by a processing card.
Cool.

A fair number of i840 boards have them too, shame you need RIMMs though, but if you can afford one of these boards you can probably afford the RIMMS.
mirror here
Anyone have a mirror ? Or someone email the files and I'll put up a mirror.
MS won't own the servers, it is more likely that the servers will be run by your ISP or employer.

Microsoft wouldn't store your data, someone else would, your ISP for example. All MS have anounced in the software to do this.

Because no company will reduce thier packaging and therefore shelf space until someone else does it first...

Durex have a range of condoms made from a non-latex stuff that they call... Duron.
This a rticle at Bloomberg.com suggests the same.
MS Apps of course, nothing Bungie make is part of Windows.
So I guess MS are trying to buy everything they can before the final judgement comes into effect.
There are many phenomenons in space (like the supernova) that're either difficult or simply impossible, with today's technology, to recreate
Good, the idea of some guy in a lab recreating a supernova is not my idea of fun, what they do at CERN is good enough.
Realisticly though, the only space we are going to explore is in our own solar system so we should concentrate our efforts here.
