There's a blank space with pads, yes, but i don't think it would be a good idea to just solder it in there. Going out on a limb here, but the supercap may require firmware support to actually complete the writes when the main power is yanked. Then again maybe its just wired in parallel with the power from the SATA connector, dunno. I'm not much help:)
Of course you need to pay to implement it, but lets not pretend it's a black box or 'closed' just because it isn't literally free to pass around like friendship bread.
As someone who is just now stepping into FreeBSD and who has managed Debian/Ubuntu systems for quite some time, i do find the front end tools for package management on Debian to be a bit nicer than pkg_add/pkg_delete on FreeBSD, but i know there are many other tools on FreeBSD for this purpose that i haven't found yet:)
The FCC is a part of the federal government, if they're actively encouraging private companies to rifle through private communications, or worse, forcing them to do so or penalizing them for NOT doing so, the situation is not so black and white that we can declare it to be outside the scope of bill of rights.
You're implying that they somehow block every single search term related to porn. Guess what? Not only are there tons of slang terms for various things they haven't heard of, but even whole genres of porn that they can't block because they've never heard of. Sure, they can block most mainstream porn, but a lot of genre-specific porn would also apply to mainstream.
I wish people would.....know something......anything....about the subject before making such statements.
Yes, in normal operation the system will heal itself, that's the point and it's what i expect the OS to do. You forgot to mention that there is a developer mode. You can install your own kernel, do whatever you want, and at most you'll get a warning that the system is out of spec or modified. They aren't locking anyone out of their own system, there's no TPM, and Google specifically says that one is not required to do what they're doing in firmware. Besides that the only app is the browser, and unless they're planning to completely remove extensions from the Chrome OS version, those will be there, and you can do quite a bit with them.
And the picture you paint of Google dangling some code out in public to get the community to do their work for them, is absurd.
Yea but most of those linux distros are just identical code, and many of them persist only because of user behavior and usage patterns that people don't want to change. It's preference more than anything at this point. I like the way Debian does things, so i use that frequently. Others like the way Redhat does things, etc.
This web server is substantially different from all the others, apparently closed source and quite limited from the sound of the summary (which, like TFA, i barely read). This is more like shifting from Linux to another operating system than switching between distros.
No it doesn't, and this is the dumbing down of the consumer electronic industry. Letting companies get away with denying warranty service because of software changes is absurd. There are ways to ensure the device isn't totally screwed just because the software got tampered with, and many other modern devices support restoring software independent of its current state.
So in reality, the exchange should go like this:
"My device doesn't work"
"Did you tamper with it? Can you restore the original software with the tools we provided? Do that and call us back. If it still doesn't work we'll replace or service it."
Why do you need the window manager itself to display partial sized windows? They're always going to be something the browser is showing you so why not just let the browser overlay boxes instead? They seem to be doing that already, those gtalk and chat windows look like overlays.
Cameras already work with Chrome OS, and iPods could if Apple weren't controlling them so tightly. They could make a cloud version of iTunes though which would solve a lot of problems (and create some new ones of course).
Ask the typical home user in 2009 what they do on their computer most of the time and the answer is probably facebook which has absolutely nothing to do with Windows. It's only going to shift more in that direction as time goes on, by this time next year streaming web video will have expanded substantially, facebook will have another 100+ million users, and the relevance of all those Apps that require windows will fade away.
Besides that, there is no forced choice here. This thing is supposed to be for your second, cheap and extremely portable computer, the primary one can run whatever you want it to.
Every seen those little RSA keys that generate random time-sensitive numbers? I think Paypal might be using something similar. The password is standing out alone at the moment for most use cases, and it doesn't need to be.
One of the most popular encryption packages, Truecrypt, has a known offset in the volume where a specific word is stored, encrypted. I think it's the string 'true' or 'yes' or something.
Checking for that word tells the program when it has hit the right combination of password, key and cipher chain, and consequently it would also tell an attacker when they hit the right password in this case.
The GPL is a distribution license, not a EULA, and explicitly states that it places NO restrictions on the end user, and that acceptance of the license is not required, at all, to use the software.
The difference would be if the EULA specifically gives Apple hardware owners the right to make that extra copy.
Psystar seems to be arguing that the owner of a copy of a program has inherent rights to load it into ram because of section 117, Apple says no, you need additional authorization you get from the EULA. If the EULA doesn't give anyone this right to a 3rd copy then you'd be correct.
Certainly possible, but i always select not to import settings. Is this a hidden setting somewhere separate from the main search provider? Because clearly they are different, failed domains go to bing, search box is set to google.
How the hell is that a troll? After updating Windows 7 last week, Firefox started using Bing for those url bar searches, even thought Google is the default. They changed something.

h.264 is an open standard, the spec is available online, for free, right here: http://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-H.264-200305-S

Well shit, that analogy cleared it right up.........no wait......which one is the car?

Some firewalls do inline malware checking

2 snakes 1 charmer?
Clearly, if you have to google "sex", you already know what it is.
"Sex" you say? Let's just give that a try.....open Google and.....OH MY GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO ANOTHER PERSON???

What? Since when does Google DRM things?
The rest of the fragmentation is made up of nearly identical clones of Debian and Redhat. This is, out of the box, substantially different.
I wish people would.....know something......anything....about the subject before making such statements.

'Our apps' is totally subjective.

2 factor auth, maybe even 3.

Do the drivers in Windows actually support master mode?

Because somehow on Windows 7, Firefox is doing the same thing now, and Google is the default search engine.....
