How can we be so self-righteous, when local governments routinely impose similar censorship on public-access facilities here as well? Does your local library have an unfiltered feed? Would your school suspend you for posting negative comments about it?
I'm paying $19 Canadian per month for a 1.2M/160K ADSL connection from a little outfit called istop. A static IP would cost me an additional $2 per month.
No restrictions on servers, either.
There are a fair number of ADSL vendors here, plus the local cable company. Sure, it's colder and the taxes are higher, but we have more high speed options AND the beer is better!
HOWEVER: With the old Mexican regime's propensity towards graft and embezzlement, my concern is that 'the poor' will be redefined to be 'friends of the bureaucrats'.
And this makes Mexico different from other North American countries how?
The Economist is the only weekly newsmagazine I read on a regular basis. Unlike the crap that passes for journalism in North America (Time? Newsweek? Macleans? Give me a break!), they eschew full-page photos and seventh-grade vocabulary for literate, intelligent analysis and opinion.
Actually, it was Breakout that helped sever the link between the two Steves. Jobs received a big bonus for cutting components from the game; WOz was promised half. Woz got $350, while Stevie J pocketed a cool $5K.
Back in the early 90's it was supposed to be the next big thing - 21Mb in a 3 1/2" form factor.
Never caught on. Unless there's a massive push on many fronts, this won't make it either. CDs are so cheap in quantity (just ask AOL) that the barrier to entry is high - why support a new format that no one uses?
If you remove your USB key once every day, that's 365 insertions a year, or roughly 27 years before it breaks. Up your average to 10 times a day, and you're still looking at 2 years 8 months... by which time you'll have replaced the system with a newer and better one anyways.
Open standards anyone? The Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is available at http://www.adlnet.org. Imagine, designing content to be reusable.
Painful as it is for me (I'm a stout fan), the best way is to hit them in the pocketbook. Let them know why you're rejecting their products as well - in a calm, inteligent and intelligible manner.
Microsoft needs to demonstrate real competitors for their upcoming appeal, to get Jackson's ruling altered or dismissed. Running ads attacking Linux will let MS say "See, there is a credible threat to us."
I don't think MS is scared of Linux, but they are scared of the courts. This ad is directed to the courts, not towards consumers.
Good. The Economist had a piece recently discussing bandwidth auctions - provided they don't turn into beauty contests, they are the best method for allocating resources.
Isn't this the essence of being a hacker: take a random collection of (parts or code), roll your own (machine or robot), and show off your kick-ass results?
Once again, Red Hat is successfully creating brand recognition - it's not Linux that IBM is selling, it's Red Hat Linux.
It's appropriate that this is with IBM - another company that got big on selling its name, regardless of whether they provided any compelling technical advantage over their competitors.
Railroads are perhaps the best metaphor for what AT&T is trying here. In brief: They own the rails, and want a share of the profits that other RR companies generate using their rails.
Whether or not this will work is doubtful, but it's nice to see that the Robber Baron techniques don't change over the centuries.
It's depressing that a non-event like new stylings for cases or monitors could been seen as a reason for legal action.
At the end of the day, leaks like this can help draw attention to a company and its products. But since SJ came back, there seems to be a dedicated effort to clamp down and control everything about Apple.
Earth to Steve: Support and encourage users and enthusiasts. No users == no more Apple.
Well if it's merely thought that's the big deal just wait until geneticists develop animals that don't have thought processes. By your argument here, we ought to be able to do anything we like to them.
We've already got animals without thought processes.
There's not much difference...
(A little something for all the Atari 8-bit fans out there...)
(As always, IANAPL (I Am Not A Patent Lawyer))
Nah, that's a trade secret...
Come on! Do you honestly think governments would lie to their own people?
No restrictions on servers, either.

Should be on every geek's reading list!
Full details are available at Woz's website.

64mb would be perfect? Look to: Agaté Technologies then - they have a 64Mb model in Graphite colour.

Hey! I still have my ET cartridge!
No more Guiness... sigh...

Let the free market decide!
Geeks with testosterone. Who woulda thought ? ;)

Despite the best efforts of terrorist bombers and murderers, and blatant electoral fraud, Quebec remains a part of Canada.
Obviously, the client needs to have the same validation at its own end, but would this be unworkable?

They're called Nielsen viewers.
Therefore, I've succeeded in proving one of tghe great philospohical puzzles of all time, by showing that .GOD does not exist.
