A properly functioning gutter system will greatly reduce the amount of water that reaches the foundation of the house, thus avoiding more serious issues. Keeping the walkways clear is mostly cosmetic.
I see, thanks. But wouldn't such gutters require the drains to be further away from the structure than the ~0.5 meter that we usually see?
Most of my gutters are only accessible by ladder from one or two points, the rest of the ground is too uneven, soft, covered in fragile landscaping, or blocked by larger plants/trees.
Then why have gutters on that part of the house? I thought that the purpose of gutters was to catch the water that would run down on walkways. Why gutter all around, especially in places where the water would simply fall on landscaping?
Even if, as chromatic mentioned, that you were wrong on the technical details, what you wrote was important. The devs at Blizzard know the technical details, so a small mistake on our part won't make a difference. But by showing interest in the Linux port, you very well may make a difference. I like how you remind them that they are innovators and that a linux port most certainly is innovation. Good job!
Why don't you go ahead and buy the Windows version of the game, since we all know you dual-boot, no matter how much you will claim not to in order to keep your geek cred.
Not only do I not dual-boot, but I don't even play games. I'm not a geek, I'm a computer user. Are you a mechanic because you drive a car?
I stress that we need to write to the gave devs because promoting Linux software in general, not just games, is good for Linux users. I personally need Solidworks to run on Linux. Right now I waste half my cpu cycles and memory running VirtualBox to use it. If you feel like writing to Solidworks instead of Blizzard, please be my guest, you will help me out a lot: http://www.solidworks.com/pages/company/SolidWorksOfficeWorldwide.html (requires registration)
Not if the developers have been working with the aim of not breaking under Wine.
Exactly, but they aren't going to do that if we don't ask. Write to them and let them know that they need to target Wine / Linux as well as whatever versions of Windows they write for.
Better yet, as another poster mentioned, wait a few weeks before writing to them. That way, we won't flood them all at once and then die down again.
I guess that I'm in that "half of al/.ers" who never played any of the diablo games. *shrug*
Games are nice, but I can't believe half of all/.ers can agree any anything (besides reading/., apparently).
Even if you don't want to play games (and I don't), promoting the development of Linux software will be beneficial to you no matter what field you happen to be in. I personally need Solidworks to run on Linux. But there is no Solidworks, because large proprietary applications developers don't think that there is demand for Linux. Promoting anything, including games, will help.
I run WoW under wine on ubuntu. Works perfectly, and even plays nice with the compiz fusion desktop effects. I can run WoW on one desktop, and then spin the cube to another to answer IMs or whatever.
But it might not work in the next release. If we don't write to the game developers and let them know that we want to use their products on linux - even if there currently is a workaround such as wine - then we will never have games written for the OS. And not having games is what keeps many people on Windows. A vicious cycle, and we need to break it.
Perhaps Blizzard and I can simplify our relationship and I can just hand them my soul. They seem to have a pretty good handle on it as it is.
I'd go for that when there will be a Linux port of the game. Here's the address to write to and to let them know that there is demand: http://us.blizzard.com/support/webform-us.xml
Just think, if half of all/.ers wrote to them expressing interest in a Linux port, how much pressure that would be to deliver. Even a port compiled against Wine 1.0 would be great. Write to them and let them know that.
if possible compare it to CUDA since I know what that does.
You see, it's like a car... It takes instructions and makes something of it... like how a car takes steering and brakes and get you from point A to point B.
Not to mention that every study of "subliminal" advertising has debunked it as BS. I'll take my psuedo-science on astrology.com; I'd rather not have to deal with it on/.
Nike sells sports clothes at designer prices, and people actually buy them and wear them. To think that advertising has nothing to with it is nonsense.
I'm sure that the fact that Nike has a quality product also has something to do with it. I recently purchased a pair of Nike running shoes SIX MONTHS after I decided to start running because six months ago I looked at all the different running shoes and Nike was clearly better built. It has thicker materials, glue that I could not peel away, and an overall lighter shoe. Even the laces screamed of quality. The only problem that I had was finding a black pair that did not look like a clown designed it.
Go to your local shoe store and try to disassemble the shoes (peel, pull, tear). See which ones are better built. This is good advice before buying anything, and the Ford dealer almost threw me out of the store when he saw what I was doing to the Focus. I did wind up buying the Focus by the way, which is really built good for it's price.

According to their website it cleans 60' in 10 seconds
60' in ten minutes.

and even if you have ups's for both, your house could be destroyed, better have a back up house
Or, you know, a laptop.
That's your answer to everything.

We want NATIVE Linux port. No WINE!
Write to them. Tell them that.
luckily it is as simple as that
In most cases it is as simple as that. Not in all cases, but in most.
They're not that dumb, obvious there will be a surge of emails demanding Linux and it will not be a steady demand.
So wait two months before you write. But write.
I run WoW under wine on ubuntu. Works perfectly, and even plays nice with the compiz fusion desktop effects. I can run WoW on one desktop, and then spin the cube to another to answer IMs or whatever.

Nobody wants to launch a game for Linux, they prefer to stay with the 90% of the OS market and Windows...
So let them compile against Wine 1.0.
Perhaps Blizzard and I can simplify our relationship and I can just hand them my soul. They seem to have a pretty good handle on it as it is.

Where, oh where, do you find this stuff?!?
... and sometimes as good (depending on the game) as the $600 280.
Like this $600 280?

Just ponder at the fact that deseases like malaria kill millions, while Pharma is fighting poor erections.
You do realize that those people came from erections, don't you?
We could then jack them into a "matrix" of batteries while feeding them a VR version of reality. That is until the NEO mouse evolves.
Here's a mouse in Near Earth Orbit.
That is until the NEO mouse evolves.
Will a bluetooth mouse work with this Neo?

*I* spotted the breasts in your post, sneaky.

Would you miss it?
With my unsteady rifle hand? Most likely.
We should like totally change that cross thingie into a T.
