No flamewar. I'm not married to any particular browser and I'll happily use the best tool for the job. When I can get tabs on the side and repagination (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2099) I'll consider switching.
I did run without the window frames for some time, but decided to reinstate them. You will see that they are less than 20px high, however, any smaller and it was annoying. I would very much like to identify what I like about them, other than habit, so that I could preserve what it is that attracts me without sacrificing the screen space. As I am a heavy keyboard user, it is not the buttons.
Seems like it was abandoned long ago. But it does prove one thing: the space race did in fact kick the US into gear and to rethink it's education system. Too bad they went from one extreme to the other, and then back again. At the risk of karma, that is typical of American politician. "Big changes!" rather than evolution of the system. Just like in software development, this leads to much unexpected breakage.
Except we don't need it. It's mostly for show. We have enough nuclear firepower to wipe the floor with any real nation that decided to oppose us. Are you seriously suggesting that if we engaged in a war where aircraft carriers were truly necessary and -under threat- that we would hold off on the nukes? We'd have to face an actual military foe for that. Aircraft carriers are used to launch aircraft, which are used to drop bombs, which are used to neutralize threats that are located in a place where sending in ground troops is either unacceptably dangerous or impractical. Do you think that you have no enemies in such locations?
You seem to think that only large, nuclear-armed states can hurt you.
Imagine even one year of spending where $800 billion goes to sciences and technology, and $300m goes to the DoD. You went to far. Your Department of Defense needs a _lot_ of money for providing adequate defense. Think of what it takes to maintain just a single aircraft carrier. The problem is that what you call the Department of Defense is currently not practicing defense but rather offense. Restrict them to strictly defensive roles, and you will save enough to fund whatever science you like.
But don't forget, especially in war, the best defense is often a strong offense.
New Math: What was wrong with the old math? I remember being exposed to new math in 4th grade. It was pointless. I never needed until college, and only for bit mapping. I don't impress the ladies with knowing DEADBEEFBABE can be a number. What is "new math"? I don't think that my country teaches it.
If the US government gave a rats ass about Science they'd crush creationism once and for all. It seems like a hypocritical gesture to dole out hundreds of millions of dollars for science R&D and allowing creationism to be taught in science classes. Which is effectively sabotaging the next generation of scientists. Teach the controversy and all that crap. Isn't the expanding earth theory a viable alternative to gravity? Crystals work better for treating cancer than Chemo Therapy, sin causes Aids. It's all valid when you don't think about it. I am not familiar with your Creationism, but I've never heard the expanding earth theory, the crystals for cancer theory, nor the sin-aids relationship theory. Is this what American schools really teach?
Notice that the File | Edit menu has been collapsed into a single root menu on the right (My language goes from right to left, sorry). The Google search box is gone (I can google directly from the aweso^W location bar) and the tabs are on the side. Perfect for making use of this widescreen monitor's unusual geometry, which means that half the horizontal space usually goes to waste yet there is never enough vertical space.
I especially liked the part where he describes the unlocked heavy machinery that he and Paul 'played' with. I see that he adopted the exact same security model for Windows. Even after the tenth time they broke into the machinery, the company set up a security guard rather than lock the machines. How did that get translated into Windows: ports open, but the anti-virus is running!
In TFA (sorry, yeah, I know) Bill mentions how he and Paul Allen pulled the source code of an operating system out of a trash can. Of course, this has long been suspected of Vista.
I use it according to the terms I agreed to when I bought it. Not that I wanted to buy it, but at the time Dell wasn't selling the machines with anything else.
In any case, h2o on the surface can only be in the vapor state. That's the reason that the first dig was not expected to return results. The data from the orbiters was that the ice is about half a meter below the surface.
It is a hoax. see the picture of the light pulse? Well, for one, it's only showing a wave and we all know from physics that light is both a wave and and particle.
Is that like, ground beef? No it's more like either the people with modpoints today don't know what Herd is, don't know what DNF is, or have a quick trigger. +3 Interesting?!? IT WAS A JOKE!!! Don't believe everything that you read on/.. Will someone mod my previous post overrated please.
Considering that they have an open source codebase to work from, which wasn't true of Java at the time, they don't have much of an excuse to write a buggy implementation. They cannot use that open source codebase unless they want to distribute the fruits of that labor under the GPL. MS will have to code from scratch.
This is the basis of the MIT license vs. GPL. The MIT-licensed tcp/ip stack is the reason that the web works. Imagine the mess we'd be in if MS had coded their own version of tcp/ip. Actually, there's no need to imagine it, we will be in that mess with ODF in MSO in short order.

Actually, no, I though that he was serious. Er, I don't get it. Will somebody enlighten me?
I'm being wooshed?!? Whoosh the idiots who modded my joke offtopic! (not that I really give a fuck about my karma)

It's a Bill Gates quote. Google "640k".

I've been organizing the bars like that since I started using FF, and I find it makes for much better use of that space than just a gray, blank area.
Agreed, I hate wasted screen real estate:http://www.dotancohen.com/images/examples/firefox.png

I did not imply that you are a criminal.

What, with all the BUGS?!?

10 ppb or 10 ppm? Is the thing that sensitive?

Hey, I _am_ a particle, you insensitive clod!My girlfriend tells a joke about ducks. It goes:
"What's the difference between a grape and a duck?"
Answer: "Both are purple, except for the duck."
Yeah, it's stupid, but I laugh, and then she has sex with me.
Tell her I laughed. How far does she live from Nesher?(no I don't give a fuck about karma)

ODF documents should be checkable, and compliant applications should have the opportunity to flag errors on the format.
"Should" being the operative word. The spec is open. Write it.Does it need to be anything more? Do you want a cake?
The IE team does that, not the Office team.
