And if they were really going for the fear factor they'd leak this on a monday or tuesday morning, not at 6pm on the friday before a long weekend. It sounds to me like they want to diminish any possible panic, not amp it up. Obviously they don't want to cause public panic. Just 'public awareness'.
You suppose that GoogleTalk had put a dent in AOL's business? I doubt that. I have many AIM contacts, and no Gtalk contacts. People are not about to switch protocols (and therefore interoperability with their contacts) so fast. In any case, Jabber already has AIM gateways so GTalk and AIM could communicate without AOL switching protocols. Side note: I hope that this finally leads to video support in Jabbber.
So far as I understand, more than just a single proton has been moved by teleportation. Yes, two kilometers is impressive, but more relevant to human teleportation is when large masses are moved intact. This has been done: http://what-is-what.com/what_is/teleportation.html (Disclaimer: I wrote that).
Could someone please point out the benefit to the patient when the doctor can assess the patient's ability to pay his medical bills before administering treatment?
I call BS on this one. I was in the US just two weeks ago. The airport was at security level 4 out of 5. I asked an officer what the threat was, and he told me that in the four years that he had been working there, the threat level had not budged from level 4. That means that there are effectively only two levels of threat: 4 and 5. This also means that the officers are authorized to perform 'checks' and other violations of the rights that I know Americans used to hold dear. This is a temporary situation, I understand, however the temporary situation has been in effect for over four years it seems!
I believe that the CIA 'admitting' that the power outages are attacks are a way to drum up public support for more 'checks' and ways to survey the public. If they were real attacks then I doubt the CIA would make that public. I also doubt that the CIA would be the agency to do make that public. I don't subscribe to the many conspiracy theories that populate Reddit, but from the little that I did see in the US in the three days that I was there, things have changed since 1999 (last time I was there). People are now scared. People _want_ their government to invade their lives. That is scary. I was thinking of Winston Smith the whole time.
I'm Jewish, and I forgive him. If we could not forgive those who have hated us, then we would be in a constant state of hatred with almost every race we have ever encountered. Jews are able to forgive (but not forget) as a step towards reconciliation. Even with the dead.
Cloned or not, as long as the animal in question lived a happy, healthy life prior to being slaughtered, I'll eat it. With just three replacement words, that would make an excellent Hamas motto.
Excellent. I had no idea that the US government was, effectively, subsidizing the balloon industry. Now, the price can be adjusted for supply/demand, making balloons more expensive. That should keep at least some of them out of our ponds and rivers. If people want to play fun with a non-renewable resource, and pollute to boot, let them foot their own bill.
There was a thread on the Mozillazine forums about malicious JavaScript changing router settings about two years ago. Unfortunately, in October Mozillazine had a big foulup and many threads (and users, me included) were lost. I cannot find the thread now, but if I do I'll post back with a[n] URL. The thread's conclusion was that one should never leave the default password on the router.
This happened to me last year in the middle of a lecture. The professor's computer reset itself. Worse part is, that nobody in the room though it was abnormal. I made a comment about it being absurd, and the response was "what, you don't keep your system updated". I mentioned something about Fedora not automatically reseting itself in the middle of _my_ work, but all I got back were grunts.
In Israel, the law says that you do NOT go through a red light to let an emergency vehicle pass. So no matter what one reads on/., he should check his local laws and driving customs first.
drivers who drive distracted, intoxicated or stupid That is in there. However, it comes with this disclaimer:
Darwin says, "This nomination is not popular. It is against the rules to receive a Darwin Award if you injure innocent people. I thought this event might qualify anyway, because the driver was an idiot, and the occupants of the Hummer were not seriously injured. But it seems that I was wrong. This story will likely be removed from the archive soon."
You mean like this dead guy?

It's just taking them a bit longer than usual to gimp out all the UFO's.

Oh, and who controls OOXML? Someone you trust more than Sun?

The cases mentioned were just the accidents. What about deliberate malware installations, such as those done by Sony and Sears?

At worst, I will have another used drive on my hands. At best, I'll have some new pr0n. Either way, I'll have some fun.
Bonus points for you if you let me try, say, an 8MB cache, 7200 RPM, 500 GB SATA Western Digital drive
Yay incorrect use of terminology. This is not a GoogleBomb
