    If the TSA posted a list of "We will search/pat down all people except for the following people/items."

    The TSA does post this information. They only search people who attempt to cross an arbitrary plane. Terrorists don't need to cross that plane to do harm.

    OK. Now I'm confused again.

    Shifting to algebraic notation:

    3*((4+5)+(6+7)) != ((4+5)+(6+7)) * 3.
    You can't flip 3 like that for arbitrary matrices.

    I agree with your statement of inequality. However, is 3 4 5 + 6 7 + * + = X in RPN the equivalent of 3*((4+5)+(6+7)) in algebraic notation? I thought that it was established that it (the original statement in RPN) would be equivalent to 3+((4+5)*(6+7)) in algebraic notation.

    So, replacing numbers with Matrices:

    3 4 5 + 6 7 + * + = X
    4 5 + 6 7 + * 3 + = X
    5 4 + 7 6 + * 3 + = X
    7 6 + 5 4 + * 3 + != X

    That isn't what MathWorld says about the summation of matrices.

    I was, as you pointed out, trying to apply the commutative property to RPN. I've rarely used RPN and want to make check to see if I remembered the basics. So, thanks.

    What do you use the HP12C for that couldn't be replaced with some mental estimation when away from your computer and a spreadsheet (or other software)?
    Would that not be equally impressive?

    Excel (or even python) has an economy of scale for calculating multiple variations of quick financial calculations and allows you to return to or build on previous work.

    Linear order implies structure from syntax. RPN implies structure from order. So does human language, in an effort to make communication more effective.

    You may be interested to know that the Russian language (and I venture a guess that other related languages, e.g. Polish) implies structure from syntax, mostly from prefixes and postfixes from roots. The order of words in a sentence written or spoken in Russian is largely an issue of custom.

    Yeah, they should have worked with real journalists like the ones at the New York Times to vet information and selectively release information over time. In other words, wikileaks, should have done exactly what they did and not worry that some people won't even realize that they took care to act responsibly with the classified information they received

    Raising $100,000 is news? At least he was smart enough not to get ripped off by investment bankers, not that they would be interested in a $100K placement.

    If I recall correctly (I'm not going to bother to look it up to confirm) Warren Buffet gave over $40 Million to each of his children. I wouldn't call that evidence that he wanted them to "make it on their own". I'm guessing the that Warren's children were in their 40s when the pledge was made and have benefited greatly from his wealth prior to receiving $40 million each.

    That is the most logical and well articulated argument you've written in this thread. Unfortunately, you have (apparently) written me off without introspection on what you've written here. I actually agree with your point about wealth and income inequality being detrimental to society. But it is no reason to call someone a paranoid schizophrenic because they value their privacy more or define privacy differently than others or maybe have concerns about bad actors within or with influence over governments.

    BTW, I looked at some of your previous posts. I'd be interested in hearing any thoughts you have on how to transition from our current economic system to one you would deem "improved".

    Actions taken by the government are completely good or bad. This is a good one that could never result in any abuse. Anything that benefits the 400 well connected guys in any way is bad. This could never help the 400 well connected guys in any way so it is good. It would be stupid to be cautious when dealing with the government because it is obvious when the government is doing something bad.

    The Mises.org paper seems to be arguing that public utilities are not natural monopolies because governments set laws that allowed public utility monopolies to form. The paper does not seem to address the possibility that natural monopolies can exist with or without government assistance.

    Nonsense. Do you really think that any financial sector company would bother moving to other countries if the regulation applied to any company that does business in or with others in the USA? The USA is where most of the economic activity is. They need to do business here. For that privilege they should adhere to the regulations here. However, the corrupted legislative system in this country won't implement proper regulation. Instead we hear lame excuses for not implementing more ineffective regulation.

    There is no need to eliminate the social security program. The only problem with social security is that the distribution of income is different than assumed when the program was designed.     Dr. David Gorski, a surgical oncologist, warns against making a conclusion that radiation hormesis is a real effect phenomenon. There just isn't enough data to call it one way or another. The conservative approach is to assume radiation hormesis does not exist until enough evidence demonstrates otherwise.

    You know, there's a concept you may find interesting, that you really can't spend more than you can afford, no matter how much you want something...

    The USA hasn't run up against that limitation yet. But it is planing on doing so in about 25 to 30 years to avoid "death panels".
