Gaim is indeed a nifty app, but my main beef with it is that, while it can do a lot of protocols, it can't seem to do any of them particularly well. From what I've played with in 2.0, that hasn't changed much. In particular, Gaim's IRC capabilities are lacking, a lot.
Find me a versatile chat client that does a well-specialized job with each protocol, and then I'll take notice. Gaim is moving forward, but they've still got a long way to go.
Not to mention, I try to stay away from GTK-based apps, especially under Windows.:\ They feel uncomfortable.
So, now the parties opposed to stem-cell research (who shall remain nameless) have ammunition for their FUD cannon. Great.
It looks like a minor setback in my eyes, only in need of further research and development. After all, it's not like we could expect the so-called "miracle cure" to be perfected overnight.
I hope COPA gets shot down... no one will miss it. Really, it's just a way for site owners to transfer blame: "The stupid kid lied about his age, so there's nothing I could have done. Not my problem."
Though, COPA has come in handy as an excuse to ban underage asshats from forums and the like, when you discover they're 11 and registered as 13.;)
No child under 13 should be set loose on the internet unsupervised. In fact, the same can be said of most 14 and 15 year-olds too. And, finally, to beat a dead horse, no form of mass media (internet, video games, TV, etc) should be used as a substitute for real parenting.
What is this nonsense? It seems as if everything is trying to move to wireless... the only question is, WHY? Obviously, desktop systems don't tend to move much, so there's not really a valid reason to. For laptops, who really carries a bunch of peripherals around (aside from a mouse)? is it really that much trouble to plug in a USB hub when you sit down at your desk?
Some of the wireless stuff is neat, but most of it is becoming ridculous. I don't need wireless speakers or a wireless printer. It's a nice novelty, but not worth the headache that wireless devices tend to cause.
...And don't even get me started on wireless networking.
