So, in other words, not to dig or anything, but it sounds like instead of making your css pages work, you have taken the easy way out. Sure its hard, but the reward is great. There is absolutely no excuse to use table based layouts anymore, and ie is CSS friendly, its buggy sure, but completely possible with workarounds and various tricks. Good luck with the shift, i recommend switching fully now :-)

  3. Re:designer not developer on CSS: The Definitive Guide · · Score: 1

Being a developer and a designer, I think that an understanding of both facets of the website/blog/whatever process is important to know. I think with the advent of CSS, the boundaries have certainly blured, and as other posts have said, a developer stops at image manipulation, a designer stops at coding. It is probably beneficial for a designer to know the limitations of html and css, in order to not give the developer one hell of a headache. It is also beneficial (although less so) for a developer to have an inkling of good design flow. Hopefully at the end of it all you will end up with a site that is good looking and maneageable. If these two seemingly disparate job descriptions cant harmonize, then you end up with a dog slow site that looks wonderful, but is completely unusable, or you end up with a great functional site that nobody stays at longer than 1 second due to retinal burn. I think to be the most employable, you must know css and html. Most job descriptions I have seen unless for larger teams dont make any distinction, instead wanting a do it all guy or gal.

Do you count CSS as an innovation??. If so, i have to disagree with you. Wouldn't it be better to word it "I hate any innovation that annoys me", instead of a blanket "any" innovation. Or maybe I should just develop all my sites in size 15 font, using framesets, in times new roman, and 16 colours. Innovation in itself is not bad, innovation for the sake of it is. The misuse of tehcnology cannot also be blamed on the technology itself but the dumb people who develop. I find javascript incredibly useful to improve my ui, some people decide to make yellow scrolling text on a magenta background, thats not javascripts issue. Dont shoot the messenger. Better go, my brick cell phone is ringing, and Im missing Magnum PI reruns.

I wont- (I know your being sarcastic!!!) Note to Slashdot developers - could we place the author of the posts name in the live bookmark feed so I can safely navigate myself through the minefield that has become Zonks posts against Sony. even just a "-Z" at the end will suffice for his articles For F Sack Zonk - yes we all know you hate Sony and Love the Wi. Get off this bandwagon and post something decent, or move onto greener pasture. The fact that a fair wack of Slashdots readership are on PC's and play PC games must be a deciding factor in posting articles of interest no?? My 2 cents

1: Opening Multiple Tabs (more than 20) Crashes
2: UI is TERRIBLE - why???

File / Edit / View menu:

Displays below the address / nav bar, a break from convention from every windows app Ive used in the past. A break from convention is good if its progress, this is just change for change sake, it flat out doesn't work!!!!

    Command Menu:
Uses Real Estate that could be used for tabs. I want my home button beside my back and forward buttons. I cant convert to a classic view instead of the half baked attempt at a UI, or change

    Navigation (back forward reload etc)
    Should be grouped together.

I could go on. The fact is, Microsoft have locked me down with this software to a specific experience regarding its UI. I cant change the size of icons, nor the position of toolbars etc. Why not MS??.
Its a joke, and I havent even started playing with CSS in it yet. I was hoping for MS to listen to the cries of the RC users regarding toolbar management, they obviously didn't "hear us"

I agree with its going to be a little easier, but alot easier i am dubious about. Unfortunately all the sites that we have had to hack to pieces to get working in ie 6 are just about to come back to haunt us as they break in this new browser Microsoft have only from my reckoning only implemented 58% of the CSS 2.0 framework, compared to figures in the 90's for other browsers (I have no direct source for these figures this info- so may be wrong) So, i dont breathe a sigh of relief at all. More a frustrated sigh that once again Microsoft have missed the mark. At least the 3 pixel jog is fixed.
