Thank you. That needed to be said.

"How can a true clone be different in such a major way?"

Although our beloved scientists do care things like that, the companies funding them unfortunately don't. This is just another race - just like everything else.

" Wake up, America. The sooner that people realize that capitalism is an evil, oppressive economic system, the better. Millions of workers are enslaved by it, and their emancipation will be no less important to the history of the country than the emancipation of the African-Americans by Abraham Lincoln (which marks the last honorable deed ever performed by a Republican.) Get out and vote. You might think that your lone voice doesn't matter, but if we all band together, we can make a difference."

Overall, this post could have been worded a hell of a lot better, but this AC does actually have a point. It's sick to think how many millions of dollars were wasted on 30 second time slots when it could be going to much better use... like housing and feeding the less fortunate (especially at this time of year)!!!

This almighty corporate America shit has to stop. (Don't believe me, refer to Microsoft, the DeCSS case and countless other examples.) I'm not calling for any violent measures here, but we have to stop buying into their bullshit. The American people have to start thinking for themselves. Please, shut off the TV and read a book!!!

Ok... seriously now. This could actually be good for Apple. Really good. Opening the source will allow people to actually write the code for the stuff they actually want to see and do. Hopefully enough people will actually be willing to do this. I know I will be!

While we're at it, maybe be can try to avoid cloning windows with this OS. I know it's close now, but it's still early, the damage can be undone! Linux is almost at the point of bearing a microshaft label, lets not spread this disease.

Now if they'd only make their computers *look* decent and use mice with more than one freakin' button [preferably three]. I'm not dissing the colored cases, they're a great idea, but only if they don't look like something from Fisher Price(R).

    Thus spaketh the Slashdot crew:

Concentrate more on promoting than on demoting. The real goal here is to find the juicy good stuff and let others read it. Do not promote personal agendas. Do not let your opinions factor in. Try to be impartial about this. Simply disagreeing with a comment is not a valid reason to mark it down. Likewise, agreeing with a comment is not a valid reason to mark it up. The goal here is to share ideas. To sift through the haystack and find needles. And to keep the children who like to spam Slashdot in check.

With this I leave you to consider.

It's not that bad. I quad-boot Win98, RH6.0, OpenBSD 2.6 and Solaris 7 myself... so this problem has popped up for me once too.

It just sounds like windoze rewrote your master boot record... it happens. In the future, when it gives you the 'ol "your boot record has changed" bit DON'T let it do it.

Just boot with your linux boot disk [you did make one, right?] and reboot. When in linux, carefully RTFM, tell LILO you have two boot sectors (windoze & linux), RTFM again to make sure you did it right, reboot and all will be well. If you're lucky enough to have linuxconf, skip all the manual editing and just configure it there. LILO just needs to rewrite the MBR it's way.

    Good Luck
