most apps are launchable from the command line, though most DON'T support command line options (tho every looong once in a while, you will find an app that where you type 'appname.exe/?' and it launches the GUI help...good or bad, based on your preference, but certainly helpful at least, rather than just passing out an error or just launching the app)
nah its not THE fastest...the fastest was a week or so ago when hemos posted something on a topic roblimo (i THINK it was roblimo anyway) posted, and they were right next to each other (hemos' post was 2nd IIRC)
sorry if that sounded like i was trolling, but i wanted to be short and consise in stating that AOL has very poor security and most of the people that use it (not all of course, that would be a generalization:P) have no clue that their passwords are being taken, nor do they really know anything about system security (well most DO use windoze hehe)
But like it said in the Wired article, the user has to actually RUN the program that was contained in the mail message, not just open the mail...so it's really their own fault if they do something like that...people have to be better educated
i thought you had to preview what you wrote at least once b4 you could post it...there are no central bugles in space, just central bulges [/RANTNRAVE]
remember that epside where they were stuck in the time loop and by like the 4th time around or so, Data was listening to some noise from Space, and he said something to the effect of "I can dicsern 1024 distinct voices" and it turned out to be the crew of the entterprise yada yada yada...but anyway, no HUMAN can dicsern that many voices that accurtaly (not even CLOSE!). Cool that computers can now do that:)
Yes, Clarke predicted the use of satellites for communications long before it happened, but he also predicted:
Large space stations orbiting the earth inhabited by everyday citizens, which supposedly would have happened 10 years ago.
colonies on the moon by today.
well yeah, at the time, the Space Age was booming and was continued to do so, unfortuantely, the main force in the Space Age was the US Gov't. (and the now dead USSR). NASA had lots of its funding yanked, and the hopes of the space age fizzled as we approached the information age.
I must say it was quite enthralling, though I read about it all years ago. It's silly how STUPID the Nazi's were, sending the SAME comminque to Nazi HQ, each using their own crypto key...silly.
>Did you know at one time, Francis Ford Copella(sp?) approached Lucas with the idea of starting a religon based on "The Force"?
The Force is based on Taoism. Lucas has mentioned that he used Taoism as his influence (plus probably quite a bit of Chinese mysticism - you know, like lifting spaceships with one's mind)

people are treating Java like its already dead or sumthin...and comparing Sun's closed-source language to an open source OS that has the backing of some of the largest companies in the world is silly
looks like their doin the new one in QT 2.0 (or whatever vers the Qt tk is for KDE 2.0), so you can have different widget themes for your LInux installations! who wouldda thunk it?:P But really, Linux installs and software etc is gettin good a LOT faster than M$ ever could do, and i figure in 1 year it will surpass windoze in ease of use (ya know, like setting up hardware...GUI frontends to all our admin needs...its already gettin there:) )
I was gonna ask that myself! There are enough people that speak it (its cool to learn languages, even if they're not for programming ^_^)
