hehehe foreal...i was thinking of moving out into Sunnyvale or Cupertino, but i drove around a bit and figured i totally didn't like the towns (just so 60s suburban, icky blech...so mundane), so i moved to Mnt View/Los Altos area (pricier...but i got to live near VA Linux Systems' old place, SGI, and where i worked) But i live in S Carolina now anyway...oh well:P
u cant recruit if one doesn't want to study CS...if they want to, be they male or female, they will come (most people in college that are in CS knew they wanted to be in CS before they graduated high school anyway...i knew i loved CC and computing in general when I was about 5:P)
well i think your slowdown prob is prob E (everyone knows its a mem/CPU hog)
also, GNOME is more a file manager and program manager than a window manager (thats E's job)
KDE, OTOH, has a fairy light-weight wm, and its file manager (kfm) is quite nice as well:)
i use KDE on LinuxPPC here at werk but they make me use MacOS (not that i mind much, just the whole lack of preemptive multitasking kinda sux) tho i'm looking for SheepShaver (any URLs ppl?)

i had a chance to do development on a game for the DC, late last year (game engine), but the whole shit was to be in DirectX (for porting to windoze), and I decided against it (even though it woulda been a dream job) I guess I'll wait for the PSX2 and see wht kinda APIs it has etc, and give me time to hone my programming some
we had a massuse come in every wednesday...never took advantage of it tho...oh well...but the thing is companys offer these purks to keep their werker bees on site so as to get them to werk as often as possible

wtf?? the newest NTFS is not (last i heard) journaling...its just a 36-bit fs (4 bytes and a nibble:P~) But other than that and a few more security patches and file attributes, its no more a journaling FS than ntfs for nt4 is.

youre right, Amiga isnt doing an ENTIRE OS anymore, but i guess doing everything from the GUI APIs and windowing system, up. (replacing X is most likely...thank GOD)
I think with $$ behind them and not 15 year old legacy like X, they will get a much faster, cleaner, sexier interface than what were used to on Linux...here's hoping Amiga does The Right Thing
