Hiding the command line is not the answer , making it easier for newbies to use is . perhaps a hotkey popup box listing the commonly used commands with a brief example for each, perhaps something else.Hiding the command line "under the carpet" is one of the things that make windoze so damn bloated . There are things that are just plain easier and better done via command line why throw it away ? Education is the answer not "dumming down the OS".There are some people who will never use the command line, do we want to become a windoze clone just to satisfy them ? I believe though that most will see the advantages if we just lead them gently.
Yes the right to privacy is very important but PLEASE consider the canidates RECORD on privacy not their "promises" during a campaign. This goes for ANY canidate but especialy Hillary , remember she sent private eyes out to dig up dirt on Billy"s Bimbos so that they could trash them. And just to prove I'm not down on the Dem's only, ask the Rep canidates about their stand on the Patriot act and take that into account when you go to the booth.
While I do believe global warming is happening I am not at all sure how much if any is caused by man and I am damn sure sick of the "froth at the mouth" enthusiasts blameing EVERYTHING on it.
P.S the eruptions that formed the Decan Traps were under suspicion long before the Alverez findings and even longer before Al Gore discovered global warming.
Having used (mainly) HP's for about 4 decades I would definately recomend them RPN once you get used to it is much more natural and intuitave than algebraic entry. Download and play with one of the RPN calculator that are available for both windoze and Linux probably the Mac also, RPcalc and PGcalc are two good ones , if you like RPN go with HP.
yahoo is already doing something like this , there is one particular newletter/ad (optin, definately legit, not spam) that I subscribe to that about half the time ends up in my "bulk" mailbox. on the whole though less than 1% makes it to my real inbox, so I just do a quick scan of my bulkbox before I hit empty.I woulnt want them automaticly deleting it though or I would lose (a small amount)legitimate mail.
no not like the war on drugs , there we are mainly jailing low level dealers and end users #3 above, and let's face it there are a lot of people who want drugs( wheather we like it or not) . Nobody wants spam (except the spammers).Spam is attacking the very fabric of our society(the internet), do we let the few (spammers) destroy it or do we punish those who try.The war on drugs is not popular for several reasons,no one in their right mind objects to removing murders, rapists and child molesters from society , although some on moral grounds prefer long prison sentences to the death penality.
my lappy is linux only but all they'll find is a bunch of porn , they'll be so busy looking at boobs they'll never figure out that there is data encrypted in the JPG's.
yes the proposed bill does not make unpaid political speach illegal YET . politicl speach, paid, unpaid or otherwise is not lobbying and is protected by the first amendment. What is lobbying is the spokesperson paid or unpaid dealing with the congressperson ( or his staff) directly , bypassing the voters . Urging ME to contact my representative and express MY opinion is NOT lobbying. This bill is nothing but a blatant attempt to shut down grassroots campaings as are the various attempts around the country to raise the bar on pettions by the voters to get laws on the ballot that the politicians don't want. If you want to make something illegal make Real lobbying illegal ( by unions , companies, pacs of all stripes and orginasations from the sierra club to the NRA). let the people in congress listen to the voters not the K street law firms.
telling ME to contact my senator or congressman is NOT lobbying, it is political speach , exactly ( along with religious speach) what the first amendment was designed to protect.Lobbying is the paid spokesperson dealing with the senator or congressman DIRECTLY , often dispensing perks, favors or outright bribes. In the first case I have to agree with the position and then act by contacting my representative and express MY opinion . in the second case I and all other voters are bypassed and OUR opinions are moot. If you cannot see the difference then you don't understand either democracy or a represenative republic.
DUH telling me to "contact my senator or representative" should be illegal ? . encouraging more people to get involved in the political process should be illegal ? yeah that sounds real DEMOCRATIC.
the "fairness" docterine is nothing less than political censorship . Exactly what the first ammendment was intended to prevent. it dosen't mater if the democrats enact it or the republicans enact it it is still bad. Though I am a conservative I would be just as angry if the republicans had tried to enact it to use against those TV networks they percieve as too "liberal" . and BTW as I understand it the Dems want to include blogs and internet sites along with talk radio when they clamp on the muzzle .
I have noticed the "dumbing down" with much sadness , I quit donating to PBS in part because of this and in part because they have become far too "politicaly correct" and seem to put a left leaning slant to everything . And before you brand me a rightwing nutcase, while conservative , I am an athiest, prochoice , anti war on drugs, and have serious concerns about the patriot act . I just dont believe that more government and more taxes is the answer to everything. for instance I am unhappy with my tax dollars funding the absolute crap that PBS has become , the comercial networks (Fox included ) do a fine job of shoveling out mindless bullshit I dont need more of the same from PBS . and BTW have you noticed they are running more and more very thinly disguised comercials in addition to endless fund drives ?
Basicly I hate microsoft because their buisness model is more about supressing cometition by whatever means , illegal , immoral or othewise than it is about innovation and delivering a better and more "value full" product. I am a capitalist and they are everything that gives capitalism a bad name. The only "good " thing I could say is that the absurdly ravenous appetite for resources that is windows HAS driven innovation by the hardware makers.
I was pointing out that state laws may vary as to what is "leagaly" blind . are you suggesting that anyone who wears glasses is "unsafe" ? Funny mabye the FAA should revoke my ASEL as it is they just require me to carry a spare pair of glasses when flying as PIC.
I believe that the law is aimed (sic) at allowing "leagaly blind" people to hunt. I not being a texan do not know if the hunting laws in texas have a vision requirement. I do know that in my home state ( Florida ) I am "leagaly" blind , the statute being based on UNcorrected vision. My vision with glases is 20/20 and I have hunted safely for over 40 years ( well, safe for my fellow hunters not the game;).
I have had enough calls from pollsters who desperately attempted to PUSH me into the answers they wanted that I dont trust ANY poll, any question can be phrased so as to elicit the answer they want. stupid example >have you stopped beating your wifeare you pro life or pro abortion . I never met anyone that was PRO abortion , I have however met many (myself included) who are pro CHOICE. Note ! when I get one of theese push poll "specialists" I mess with their heads unmercifuly.
SuSe has been my favorite and most used distro for years . I havent run windows since 98 and wont have anything to do with MS.I guess I had better get serious about trying out other distros I just got a new box to play with and it may not end up with SuSe 10.2 on it . ANYONE that kisses Microsoft's ass gets screwed in the end (pun intended) look at history to see what will happen in the future, and it don't have to be history, look what Vista will do AV and firewall compaines.
It don't take a conspiricy to make idiots screw up . I spend a lot of time fixing the results of people who can't ( or wont) follow SIMPLE instructions . RTFM yeah right.

well now it all depends on what kind of "power tool".
