  1. Open APIs? on Interview: Ask Antitrust Experts About Microsoft · · Score: 5

What do you think are the chances of forcing MS to make their APIs open source? Would this be continuous (such as a gnu license), or a one-time release? I would also like to know if there is any president to such a ruling?

While this is a great idea, who is going to prevent the company from viewing your workspace. Now some of you will think I'm just paranoid, but look at how many ISP were reading e-mail. With the current laws in place it is legal for them to "check" your workspace to "make sure" no laws are being broken.

They also make it seem that it is imposible to get your password because they use challenge-responce. Let's get real, look at NT!

Um . . . the Athlon's bus speed is set by the chip, not the bios . . . and the curent Athlons can be overclocked to 1050 Mhz using 100Mhz bus (although the bus bandwith is very close to maxed). I would expect good 133Mhz boards when there are Athlon processors that run with a 133Mhz bus.

  6. Re:They are ideologically and functionally an enem on Upside Editorial Piece on Sun and Open Source · · Score: 1

I work as an admin at a major telecom. We use Solaris for part of our network. One of the main reasions is the security. While open source code is great it also alows for security flaws to be found quicker. Sun spends a lot of time searching their code for flaws (they also let a select few from large companies look at relivent code). This tightness is very useful to a company that needs to keeps files and access to switches secure. Another reason is that the switches can only be controled (legaly anyway) by software that will only run on solaris. Each operating systems has it's streangths and weaknesses, and by using a correct combination of those operating systems a company can have a better network then by just using one operating system.
