If I want my app to listen to a specific socket and accept connections from remote logging
instruments, or I want my app to allow the user to save/load files wherever they want - I'll
have to convince Apple that I'm deserving of such 'responsibility'?

It would be highly unlikely that Woz would have had the impact and notoriety that he now has if he hadn't teamed up with Steve. He was just happy to create this stuff for himself. Steve saw the potential and together the two of them made history.
You should research how many Apple shares where given to Xerox in exchange for these ideas.
'Stole' is completely inappropriate given the fact that it was an exchange, agreed upon by Xerox.
The current situation however, is a bit murkier. Claiming that the iPhone UI is totally unique is a
stretch. I do think that he took the concept and created the best implementation (so far). But to
expect that no one else would do the same is unrealistic on his part.
Lots of hams maintain alternate forms of power to provide for communications capabilities when the mains aren't working. For example battery power, or for the die-hards, generators. There are even exercises where one goes 'off the grid'.

I don't think that it was a harness. I recall seeing clips of them practicing, and it looked like a rectangular basket that they sat in as the went down the wire.

How about Apple and Rogers getting together and selling those iPhones to us up here in Canada? We feel neglected!
