  1. This scares me. on Having Fun with Y2K · · Score: 1

This is rather comical. It is going to get really chaotic, and really ridiculous after y2k. I mean, consider the possibilities. 'McDonalds hamburgers weren't y2k compliant, now I have food poisoning' or, heh, my toilet paper wasn't y2k, it raped me :P

Beware those that are slashers, its gonna get ridiculous. It'll be funny, and something we can mock =)

  2. News and Help for geeks. Stuff That matters. on Take the FBI's Geek Profile Test · · Score: 1

Maybe we should start a help community. Most of us are geeks, we could create a tactful way to help the upcoming 'us'.

I hated everyone and everything at the age of 13, and I would have loved to vent my problems in an open forum, where they won't yell back, but will help and talk to me about it. Instead, I made it worse for myself, hurt a lot of other people, and lost a lot of potential friends by being a dick on the bbs's.

So, how about it, anyone at slashdot interested in creating an extension page called 'Geek Help' (of course it would not be called this.)

Or is anyone interested in helping me with a site called this? I could host the site (until it got slashdot'd ;)

Anybody have any other good ideas, I think something like this could really work, we wouldn't really alienate them or anything.

I honestly do not want to get done with writing a really groovy perl script, or finish a sweet game of quakeIII, and then go to my wife for loving, and she's in there playing starcraft.

    None of that.

Conflict of interest. I like my gf as much as my computer(if not more.) Opposites attract :)

  4. Linux on the Palm on Color Palms Announced · · Score: 1

I remember reading that is was possible to install the kernel on to your palm. However X wasn't operable under it, because they would have to write custom display drivers for it.

Not sure how valid the rumor is, but I think it would be sooo awesome to have COLOR x on my portable palmtop! any ideas / suggestions?

  6. Compiler Concept on Li18nux Effort Announced · · Score: 1

How feesible would it be to mold, and recreate GCC (insert your favorite compiler here) to have a backend of Babelfish, or something similar? The code for Babelfish, and other translators on the Internet have been coded. Could this support be wrapped into a compiler, and it just recreates all the actual text of the program into that native countries favorite language (Of course, you would have to setup some variables for the compiler in the Makefile) It would be an interesting concept, translations would be poor at times (as you may note from the Madonna translation as of late.) However, some translation is better then none! How about coders?! --Brian

Would nicotine produce the same results, sure its bad for your lungs, and your lip, but I imagine it has some rather odd effects on your brain. Any 'chemical' or 'drug'(mind you) alters the way your mind operates, and the way your mind produces, and utilizes chemicals. I also wonder, if you have a lack of sleep, does caffeine stimulate these cells a lot more? =) --Brian

Am I one of the very few that posted that is annoyed by this article. Sure its funny, haha.

Now that I'm done laughing, lets be serious for a moment. Just reading the article gave me the feeling I was talking with an immature, highly over hormoned child (i'm a child myself, but I have enough intelligence to realize the difference between constructive criticism and being a dick.)

Yes the DOJ's webpage is uninformed, and quite comical. However, this article was just flat out lame mockery.

You guys have not a clue? Are you brain-numbed from sitting in front of that monitor too long? There's a world out there, politics, and business. Obviously Mr. Gates succeeded, you are just jealous. I do not stand up for his cause, but I do respect him for having a life, and not posting ignorant uninformed comments on slashdot, or about our government.

Geesh, I really think some of you ought like, take a government class, it'll be informative. And likewise, they should take a few technology classes. It's all good, but these are 2 completely different fields, and I think both sides need proper education before we can dictate.
