I'm still amazed how good my 10 year old philips (tube) tv with built in 5.1 sounds for both music and movies. It was bluddy expensive though.

I disagree. The fact that it has been done for centuries does not make it right to cut of sensitive bodyparts of children. This can be done later if they want it themselves.

Of course parents have to make decisions that influence their childrens lifes, but some of these can easily be posponed till a later date when the child is old enough to make his own decision. I feel deciding whether or not to remove an entire erogenous zone for non-medical reasons would be one of those.

Do you die if I make an exact copy of you and kill the original. What if I make 10 copies. Are they all you? Me thinks not. I think the consciousness living in these, what we call "the observer", the one who witnesses your life is a different one even if the memories are the same. In unix terms: if you fork a process, it gets a new process number :)

  17. Re:stupid systems on US Nuclear Power Enters the Digital Age · · Score: 1

The way to tackle that is obviously to not create one big moloch that monitors and regulates everything, but break it down into a tiny little subsystems, doing a single task that CAN be completely tested. Microcontrollers, not serverracks is what you want. These subsystems can report to an application that veryfies periodically if everything works withing parameters and report any anomolies sorted on priority to the humans. This is how it is done in alarmcentres with all the firealarms, burgalryalarms, medical alarms etc etc.
