    Crapware is a thing from the big pc manufacturers. You can also buy a ready made pc from a small shop, who build them for you. These little shops are often run by pc ethusiasts, who can give you advice on what to choose. The one I know, even gives you the option no os, os on disc or preinstalled. No crapware, just an oem version of win7.

    I have to agree. My current pc's Pentium 4 processor is still fast enough for what I do, wich is mostly programming, webbrowsing and cad, but I still will have to replace the machine because it doesn't allow enough memory to be installed and there are no SATA ports on the board so changing my aging hdd with an ssd as the bootdisc is difficult if not impossible

    Well, that had to be when I replaced my Intel 8088 with a NEC V20 @8Mhz I had the fastest PC/XT in the street.

    There are ways of distributing keys to the receiverdevices dayly without having to trust GI's and excluding the boxes that have been reported stolen or missing.

    I still don't understand why a windows computer is used for fileserver purposes. Something embedded with for example an ARM processor on it sounds must more robust and energy efficient to me.
