I try to maintain a safe distance in front of the cars behind me at all times through the proper application of the gas pedal.
I just wish that more Americans followed the concept of "Drive Right". The far left lane is NOT for doing the post speed limit or less. Oh, and that turn signal thingy...try using is occasionally.
Designers designed planes long before they could work out the math. They experimented a lot. The math lets you make things faster, cheaper and gives you ideas for new designs. I wouldn't fly in anything based solely on the math though. Fancy math is what keeps the F-117A from falling out of the sky.
Where did this "assurance" come from? Display resolutions grow as quickly as the latest games can run smoothly at the leading-edge dimensions. Moore's Law has achieved meme status. We now have Moore's Law of Business, of Display Resolution, of Hair Length, of a Geek's chance to have Sex, etc. I wonder just how many people have actually READ Moore's actual prediction and aren't just quoting it second-hand.
We would not need to worry about the topic of 'green' PCs if we did not have such bloated software that continues to require ever more CPU cycles per second to accomplish their task. There was a time when software was written in to be tight and memory efficient. WordPerfect for DOS comes to mind.
Low-power PCs are a good idea, sure, but we need our software to also be efficient. The two, together, could get us a long way toward truly 'green' computing.
And while I am ranting about bad software design...
AC-to-DC conversion is messy and lossy. Fortunately, we do have servers that can take DC directly from a shared AC-DC power supply. This concept needs to move into the home. Why should my PC, monitor, printer and God knows what else all each have their own AC-DC power converter box? Homes could have a single large converter and then have DC-only outlets for all those appliances that need it.
OK, so you've established that Reiser is not a geek...
So what is he?
Hans Reiser is a general-purpose, journaled collection of cells that relies on DNA metadata to reduce internal fragmentation. *applause*
You, sir, almost owed me a new laptop keyboard. I feel so generalized now.
HD-DVD was cheaper for both players and movies, but I'm glad the format war is officially over. Especially with wal-mart throwing their (considerable) weight behind BD. I just can't stand the fact that Sony won. Oh well. I'm still not buying a BD player until they get sub-$200. They were only cheaper because Toshiba was trying to win the standard via a price war, but not enough people bought them, even at half the price.
How about 'life of the artist'? Once the artist is dead, the song is released to the public. No more vulchering by the family members, no more agent fees.
I seem to remember reading a few different ideas for bringing satellites down that did not involve explosives. This seems like a great time to test one of them
Troll? I think not. Think about it. Microsoft is spending money to spread the word about Vista. Personally, I will never touch it, but if you want the adoption rate of a product to increase, you make the ability of entry EASIER, if that is that means "allowing" the pirates to spread your software for you.
Maybe if M$ unlocked Vista to make it easier to share with friends and family, it would enjoy a greater market share. If it helps to keep Micro$oft's lock on the market, they will still be making money. Yeah, I am basically advocating that Micro$oft consider giving Vista away for free. Vista Ultimate, at that, not the lesser cripple-ware versions.
...in the fight against spammers. I am all for it. Will this be the end-all-be-all tool? No, such a thing does not exist in the world of the inter-tubes, but if it can stop the majority of spoofing, then it is a good start.
Agenda by IBM? Of course there is! IBM is probably still feeling the sting of OS/2, among other software defeats at the hand of Microsoft. We are witnessing 20 years of pent-up anger coming out. What better way to ultimately defeat your foe/friend than be instrumental in the dismantling of THEIR grip on software?
IBM, despite having lost the OS battle, will win this one. They are the 1600lb gorilla. Their influence in the industry and deep and wide and should never be underestimated. Microsoft would do well not to make an enemy of them.
I feel sympathy for the employees who were unable to find other employment already. They will soon be without jobs. I mean, if they are still THERE, their prospects are certainly not any better once unemployed.
Why bother with scars and tattoos? What we really is a National Semen Database just in case the criminal ejaculates all over the scene of the crime.
The FBI could even use sperm banks as a front! Nope, that is what the blood banks are for. Oops, is that a knock I am hearing at my door?
I hope she takes the Nazis to the cleaners. Sure, go ahead! Godwin this article before the rest of us have a chance to post a snarky comment. You insensitive clod!
In a 'corporation', though, the company is an entity unto itself. The stock holders are not liable for legal damages assessed, right? The personal assets of the employees, chiefs and boards would also safe, unless they were gained through illegal means.
Might want to read the actual court ruling instead of the populistic and alarmist comments
surrounding it. As I read it, the defendant already had been told by the court to stop bothering the plaintiff, and he then proceeded to ignore that. In and of itself the ruling doesn't outlaw dns requests, altough the judge's grasp of the technology clearly could stand improvement. But, quickly posted inflammatory remarks based solely on the posts of others who did not read the article is required policy! Populistic? I am going to have to find a way of using that word today in conversation. *grin*
And if we needed evidence of early forms of physical media malware spread, we need not look any further than Windows ME. Surely it qualifies as malware!
In two minutes, 4 oblig cliches posted in response. Is that how snarky we have become?
I, for one, welcome our new fractionated satellite overlords.

Sorry, I will stop ranting now.

The Japanese still have us beat on wacky game shows.

All 3 of them?
