  1. I support companies i feel aren't shitheads on Glaxo Open Sources Malaria Drug Search Data · · Score: 1

Hasn't Google and multiple other companies shown that there very well may be profit in a positive pro-people (as opposed to the more common system of pro-greed) concept. I wholeheartedly hope that this type of approach to branding, marketing or public relations gains more wide spread usage.

Lets face it, we as human beings want the good guys to win. If a company can express a certain goodness in nature, i have no doubt; and happily so, since this might be an interesting possibility for capitalistic economic systems, that they will realize the possible value of brand loyalty.

Of course you have to ask yourself, what if politicians took such an approach... that is, honesty.

  2. Bribes are an everyday part of business at times. on HP's Moscow Offices Raided In Bribery Probe · · Score: 5, Insightful

While i didnt RTFA, but just to focus in on one aspect of the summary,
"HP states that in foreign nations 'it is common to engage in business practices that are prohibited by laws and regulations.'"

While they may have been wrong in this situation, the statement itself is very true; After spending some time in china for instance, bribery is certainly prevalent. Also when we examine the US system, with lobbyists and contributions... is it really that different?

  3. The Microsoft way! on Microsoft Refuses To Patch Rootkit-Compromised XP Machines · · Score: 0, Troll

Microsoft has always held the moto, "If its broke... dont fix it."

Why would they change that now?

  4. Why bother? on Library of Congress To Archive All Public Tweets · · Score: 1

And never before will the frivolousness of humanity be on such a display!

Because in 100 years time, someone might really want to know that "TwitTwittering: Had an awesome soup today" or that "InaneNYC: Just took such a dump."

  5. Is the PRC Creating Stronger Opposition? on A Detailed Dive Into China's Information Underground · · Score: 4, Insightful

You have to wonder how this is changing the psychology of the standard citizen. The more people need to rely on each other to circumvent the government restrictions, the less strength the government itself has as a controlling body; ironically enough, i wonder if the additional reliance on your neighbor would create a tighter knit, more ready to challenge the government community.

  6. Confused? I know i am. on Feds Question Big Media's Piracy Claims · · Score: 1

I don't begin to understand why this report was put out, specifically while the ACTA talks are currently ongoing. A part of me wants to believe that this is another bright flash of hope in the otherwise murky sea that is US politics, but i find myself considering how this could possibly benefit the "citizens^2" that are corporate entities. It's a sad day when a single act of (seemingly) intelligence on behalf of my government is automatically met with suspicion and doubt.

While i'm sure this isn't the case, but it would be nice if this was a sign of the **AA's, either not having the money to buy out (enough) government officials, or not having enough money to ask, what i can assume to be intelligent people (there are some in politics), to blind themselves to reality.

With that said i have a small garden of apathy i need to tend to.

  7. I trust you not on Kojima Predicts the End of the Console · · Score: 1

While i love seeing these predictions from time to time... i actually played his last game and realized that whoever wrote it must have been completely bat shit crazy. I wouldnt trust the guy to wipe my ass, much less predict the future of gaming. Imo of course.

  8. And the politicians? on FTC States Bloggers Must Disclose Paid Reviews · · Score: 5, Interesting

I may be incorrect on this, but do american politicians need to do the same, i don't believe they do (when considering modern lobbying)?

It's a funny country when the random blogger on the interwebs is held to a higher standard than those that govern.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobbying_in_the_United_States (it looks like ethic reform bills have been repeatedly struck down... surprise on that on eh?)

  11. Wearable display â VR on Where Are the High-Res Head-Mounted Displays? · · Score: 3, Funny

I feel that to bring up motion tracking blurs the line between VR and a more mundane wearable display. I could see countless uses for a wearable display.

For instance the ability to watch/play with out disturbing anyone else in the room (yes some people that read /. have other people in their rooms)... and i guess it might be fun to be able to watch pr0n with no one around to be the wiser.

    I demand my pr0n glasses!
