They announced this TODAY? It has been discussed on Bugtraq for weeks - and due to a few comments I made in their discussion forum the Swedish IDG.se reported this last Friday. I've also linked to one of the PoC-exploits here on Slashdot for people check for themselves.... what took them so long?
Nintendo cracks down HARD on illegal roms since Nintendo are actively using their old games to further the value of new ones. If there's any one company where "abandonware" really doesn't apply it's Nintendo.
Play Animal Crossing on the Gamecube, and you'll be able to play old NES-games both on the cube - and on your GBA if you have one.
Nintendo has shipped bonusdiscs with both NES and N64 games (Zelda CE)... lots of GBA games are either remakes or build heavily upon old NES and SNES games.
I do agree with the point that ROMs should be available for legal purchase though. I use a GB Player connected to my Gamecube to play GBA-games, but I'd just as well like to buy a few NES and SNES ROMs from Nintendo and play on my Xbox.
Someone should ask him why they haven't fixed the latest "remote root" in IE even though it's been used by a worm since weeks, and it has been discussed in Bugtraq for several days... and yes, Microsoft was notified of at least parts of the exploit months ago.
Thanks - I've asked around lots of times what to do when you have an RH9 server but no wish to change distribution. People have suggested I should upgrade to Fedora - but the Fedora Legacy project is _exactly_ what I want instead. No upgrading, I just want the security fixes...
Again, thanks!
(I mailed Red Hat about buying a license and continue with their commercial distributions, but they couldn't bother to reply.. nice sales organisation)
Sure it did, as well as arsons towards other people - that had nothing to do with religion. That article is WRITTEN to make it sound as if hate crimes are commonplace here, which they are not. What is well known, however, is that certain religious groups REALLY want everyone to believe that they're targetted so that people will stop putting pressure on that terrorist-state of... you know what.
If there's any one single group of people who indeed are treated badly, which is a shame, it's the Romas. That I could agree with, although that doesn't mean in any way that there are lots of hate crimes towards them every day...
Both the biggest Jewish and Moselm population? I'd say judging from the middle east conflict those attacks that's not a big surprise then.
Maybe we should consider the whole Israeli occupation of murdering of Palestinian kids "hate crimes"? Or what about the USA murdering civilians in central america, Afghanistan, Iraq or almost any other country in the world?
11000+ murdered in the US in one year, a few hundred in Europe. Yes, please tell me more about crimes in the US vs Europe.
Oh, and those "hate crimes" don't really exist - but certain religious groups are trying REALLY hard to make it look that way. You know, our media here is a bit more used to that kind of bias.
Does it feel good pretending you know lots about me?:)
You pledge your allegiance to the flag in Gods name. God apparently blesses america according to your president each and every time. Shall I look up a few more facts about YOUR country or do you give up?
Your state and church aren't very well separated at all - definitely not compared to.. tadaa.. Sweden - my country - the most modern in the world according to Scientific American...
The last change in the Pledge of Allegiance occurred on June 14 (Flag Day), 1954 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower approved adding the words "under God". As he authorized this change he said:
"In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource in peace and war."
It is a reputable site, not a humor site. You also need to brush up on your reading skills, and learn a bit or two about the history of the console industry.
Oh, and yeah. Use Google.
Seriously. It's tiresome having people reply to you on Slashdot saying "Duh I cannot find anything to support your statement" when it takes only 5 seconds to do so.
Now go find Perry's statement about Nintendo only losing a marginal amount of money right after the cut to $99 on the Gamecube. You'll also be able to find that they lost a marginal amount at launch - but in between these two points in time they actually made (or broke even) on the hardware.
Claiming "everyone loses money on the hardware and makes up for it on the games" (which the parent, and several others posts in this thread did) just displays utter ignorance and no knowledge whatsover about the console industry.
They've always come with both 8Gb and 10Gb depending on manufacturing date. The newest I've seen (Crystal variant, made 2004-02-02) has an 8Gb WD as an example.
I've seen no signs whatsoever of any variant larger than 10Gb but disabled.

There are official statements from Nintendo regarding whether they sell at a loss as well available (Perry, recent drop to $99). The above took me 5 seconds with Google - you need to brush up on your Google-skills.
It works now, and "too slow" doesn't exist when talking about something that's completely anonymous and which cannot be brought down.
There are continous measures made to improve speed, but it's good enough to distribute a piece of sourcecode - and has been for quite some time.
http://freenet.sf.net
This is one of the reasons to use Freenet. Projects should be moved there instead of just off shore to countries with less draconian (yet) laws.
Freenet won't allow realtime CVS checkins, but it'd be impossible to remove the software from it using legal means.

Yes, it's wrong.

In reality wind will supply some 21 per cent on Danish electricity consumption by 2003.

the long term targets are set even higher. In the year 2030 wind should account for some 40 to 50 per cent of electricity consumption.

Denmark does it using mostly coal plants though which we Swedes - living east of Denmark - aren't exactly fond of.
... not all countries do ;)
They don't like our nuclear powerplant close to Copenhagen though, so I guess it's vice versa.
We won't go to war over it though
It's a total rip off of Resident Evil 4 for Gamecube ... (yes I know it's not out yet, but come on ... it's SO obvious)

... it would be a lot more useful if they cracked down on domain-owners not having valid postmaster@ and webmaster@-accounts.
+1 Interesting
Agreed. Especially if you replace the green leds in the Crystal with blue ones it looks _really_ neat.

Easy soldering job as well, hopefully all Crystal owners do it

I'm only at "-2 Funny" myself, but yes, that needs to be the new default to make Slashdot really readable.

Anyway, this is one of my responses to you, in the thread you link to from your sig.

Please cite the pledge to the flag, or whatever you call it. You reference God _everywhere_ in state business.
