The game companies are also trying to rip us off by making us pay for the game then a monthly fee to play it. If I have to pay to play, then the game should be free to download.
It's just as much bullshit as the "backups" euphemism.
I legibly backup my discs be it games, software, or DVDs and am glad I do it. I had a house fire a few years back and would of lost thousands if it wasn't for my off-site backups. Sure you could so that insurance would replace it, but have you ever added up what it would cost to replace everything in your house and then looked at the cost of the policy needed to replace all that stuff?
Most Pirates I have heard about download it becasue they aren't sure about it
Yeah, that's what they all say. They somehow think if they convince people they're only "trying" it out then somehow they aren't scumbags.
True, there are a lot of people out there that say this and are bold face lying. But there are also a lot of people that pirate to actually see the game and if it would work for them. Demos have a way to show only the best in the game, just as the game boxes only show great scenes (if any) from the game. And you know you can't trust game reviewers because they are bought and paid for by game companies.
The best analogy that I can come up for why a lot pirate is this: You read about a car in a magazine and decide you would like to check it out. You go to the dealer and find a red one that you really like and want to test drive but the dealer will only let you test drive the blue one. The test drive goes great and they sell you the red one. You get the red one home and the engine falls out. You try to take the red one back but the dealer tells you no returns on cars driven off the lot.
In car buying, you have some protection under the law from this happening to you, with software you are at the mercy of the company that made it and the store that sold it.
I find it sickening that this bill, that basically spits on the Constitution while burning the American flag, has passed. I have family that served this country; from my grandfather that severed in WW2 and Korea, and uncle in Vietnam, and several cousins in both Iraq wars. To have freedoms that they fought for thrown out the window like this makes me want to find everyone that voted for this and fling them out of the country by catapult.
That in if Obama (of as I call him O'DumbDumb) wins that we will see real change. We'll be more Communist than mother Russia could of ever dreamed of back in the days of Stalin.
I wonder how John McDork and Barack O'DumbDumb voted. Oh, this shows that O'DumbDumb voted for this and McDork was too scared to actually vote. And one of these loosers are going to be the next president? I feel sooooo good about the next 4 years.
I never said their isn't some driver support out there. I guess I should have clarified it more to say that I would like to be able to buy anything off of a self and have drivers for linux with it in the box. Best example, I got stuck with a Hauppauge HVR-1600 card that has no linux support. Sure the box had on it "WinTV" but I made the mistake of assuming that since alot of other Hauppauge WinTV cards work on linux then this one would too.
Sure you can give me a list of vendors that have linux drivers for their products and links to where to contact other vendors that do not support linux yet. But the problem is, until Joe Blow can order some no-name hardware off of BobsDiscoutPCParts.com and have it come with drivers for linux, application programers are going to be leery of making programs for linux. Why should they spend their time making software for a OS that hardware vendors don't seem interested in supporting?
Sometimes evolution requires a mass extinction in order for something better to come along. Sure MS suddenly dying off would be a hit to the PC industry that could set it back about ten to twenty years. But it would give us a fresh restart and the ability to look at all the good and bad and redo things right from the start.
With MS gone, the spotlight will be on Apple and Linux. Apple will crumble under the weight due to their "Steve's way or no way" attitude with hardware. Linux could falter due to the community that codes it not being able to keep up with consumer demands. How many consumers are going to load an OS that cannot legally play DVDs in some areas? How many consumers are willing to learn how to go through the hoops required to install the latest graphics drivers so that they can play the new game they just bought?
#2:
Nonsense. That's got absolutely nothing to do with Gates, and everything with the fact that MS simply can't write another windos. After the entire NT team packed up and left, it's been going downhill, and one of the reasons Vista sucks so much is that they shipped something that nobody in the company understood how it worked. If you thought Vista was a trainwreck, wait for Win7.
Add to the fact that the NT kernel, which all versions of Windows is now using, is filled with code from MS's OS/2 days that MS has no idea how it works but knows if they remove it the PC becomes a brick. I guess IBM did get the last laugh at MS.
I'm already being throttled, I don't need more. I'm paying for DSL that is suppose to be unlimited use at the speed I'm paying for. What I do with such bandwidth is for me to do with what I want as long as it is legal. The whole idea that my account could be throttled every time I use bit torrent to download a Linux ISO is going against the whole premise of "unlimited."
since most users don't websurf 20 different sites at the same time AND read those pages at the same time - it doesn't matter if pages come in one by one ).
If you that way may I suggest going back to dial up. I have multiple users on multiple computers in my house and all the ISP can see is the 1 IP address that my router has. With your system, the ISP could be seeing my one IP that my router has go to 20 different IPs and think I'm using P2P and throttle my connection, when in fact its 5 computers surfing and getting 5 different rss feeds/ podcasts.
The bottom line is that the ISP has no right to throttle my bandwidth for any reason. If they are running out of bandwidth, then GET MORE. There are miles and miles of dark fiber, thats fiber optic cable not in use for those who didn't know, that they could easily hook up and get (gasp) more bandwidth. But instead the ISPs out there want you to believe that they are running out of bandwidth in a scheme to be able to do things such as charge users by the bit or force users to pay more for a business account. And even if they get a mass amount of users to fall for this scam, its only a matter of time before they start charging business users by the bit or by the protocol.
Insert ad: Com-scam now has a special rate for new business subscribers. Pay $20 a month for 1 Gigabyte of HTTP traffic at 1 Megabit speed, and get 10 Megabytes of FTP traffic free a month for the first year. 5 year contract required.
I not so sure that M$ will ever give Windows away like Linux. I can see them start using an open source kernel like Linux and put a pretty proprietary GUI on it just like Apple did with OS X; mainly because Vista shows what happens when M$ tries new code that isn't left over from their OS/2 days.
I looked at the site you listed. It either does not really give any data to prove global warming. One part of it says that the CO2 level had increased 80 ppm in the last couple of centuries. But where is the lab data showing that a 80 ppm increase will cause the planet to get warmer. Under "Chaotic systems are not predictable" they are basically saying that even if they can't predict the weather everyday, they know enough to predict the climate pattern in the next 100 years. That kind of "science" is a joke. Don't talk to me about climate prediction when weather men can still say "today will be bright and sunny" and then have thunderstorms all day.
There is no way anyone is going to stop intelligent design. Even if we can prove how life was started, believers of intelligent design will say that some intelligent being set condition "x" up so that life could start.
What makes me worried about this is that they can push outright lies like global warming onto impressionable children and have them believe it without a second thought.
Wait, Microsoft has software engineers?? Where were they when Vista was being made? I guess they were busy trying to make chips and left the interns to code Vista.
I don't know why M$ would try to make chips. They do much better in hardware when they have someone else make it then slap the M$ logo on it.
Ballmer isn't Bender? I could of sworn that somewhere Ballmer was quotes saying "Cheese it" and then running out of the room when someone asked him about the xbox failures.
Where is your proof that it was man that has caused this. Just coming out and saying "we can measure X degrees increase in Y years" is not proof that man had anything to do with it. History is full of temperature changes, quite a few of them while man existed and walked on the Earth. There was once a time that it was warm enough that grapes could be grown in England. History has documented that English wine at one time competed with French wine.
Someone must be conceited to think that the temperature that exists now can be the only one that can exist on the planet and that if it is not that temperature then it must be man's fault.
I'm just going on the simplistic cause for supposed global warming that crazy environmentalists give. If CO2 is the cause for us getting warmer (not that I believe that made up garbage), then Mars with an atmosphere that is mostly CO2 (although thin) should be near or above Earth temperature.
It is not the CO2 that makes Venus so hot. It is the fact that Venus rotates backwards which causes it to only do one rotation in about a year. That and it is closer to the sun.
You have the chicken or egg question all wrong. Neither came first. The frying pan came first. The chicken and egg was invented at the same time so that we have something to cook in the pan.
But how is it that man is causing the supposed temperature rise? I lived in the same area for 30 years and the summers still have 100+ degree days, and the winters are still freezing cold. If this is suppose to be global warming, where is the warming?
I hope you like your imaginary world where evil oil is the cause for everything bad. I'll sit in reality and wonder why people like you think that windmills on a calm day and solar panels at night will power my house. I have an alternate power solution for you. Put prisoners on exercise bikes connected to generators and have them pedal in shifts.
There is no way that man and out out enough CO2 that would make the atmosphere unbreathable. Not with plant life around to convert it to O2.
If you are so worried about CO2 then why are you even on this site posting? You should have disconnected your power and gotten rid of you car so that you wouldn't be making any extra CO2.
About the only way the ice could melt that fast is if our orbit drastically changes, we have a polar shift, or some crazy environmentalist(yes, I know thats a redundant statement) sets off about one hundred 100 megaton nukes down there.
Maybe the environmentalists need to go back to school just so they can learn some basic math. After all, 2 + 2 is not 5.
I fail to see who climate change will doom humanity. The human race has endured many climate changes since we first learned how to walk on two feet. Say that, I also find it ridiculous that man can have any effect on the climate. So we put out CO2. So what? If CO2 was such a "Greenhouse Gas" then Mars should be a tropical paradise full of plant life because plants use CO2.
As for civilization, those come and go. History is full of this. Maybe we'll give some archaeologists work in the future when they dig us up and wonder way we ever had the stupid idea that CO2 was bad.
So really, I don't buy that reducing ACC is a bad thing, and I don't think that it's a farce to hold people responsible for their actions when their actions impact the lives of other people. I mean, good, exemplar democracies like the US of A have been FORCING people to alter their lifestyles for over 100 years: polygamy is outlawed, as are various psychotropic drugs; the Eisenhower Interstate system realized a radical change in lifestyle (the rise of the exurbs, the fall of trains, etc. Every decision from a governing body has the effect of radically altering lifestyles; that doesn't make all governing bodies communistic or socialistic.
The fact is people are getting tired of having their rights taken away for a farce that is not been proven and that people who have come up with it will not debate it. As for the US forcing people to alter their lives, lets look at what you have listed. Polygamy - mainly outlawed due to the fact that most of the multiple marriage situations were young teenage wives and often beaten. The psychotropic drugs - the people that used them caused them to be banned due to violence associated with them. Eisenhower Interstate system - was crated due to the fact that the road systems were being over used, were poorly designed, and did not connect all points of the US together. As for the fall of trains, I can tell you that is a lie. I live in a town that you can set your watch by the trains because there is one passing through every hour.
If you are going to spout garbage about how we should change our lives and allow the government to remove our rights then do some research and give actual FACTS.
This is NOT good news folks. What it shows is the whole planet acting like a pond filling up with algae. Sure, the "algae" are doing well. For now. But our position in all this is like the trout who can't deal with it.
This is yet one more solid piece of evidence that the weather patterns our crops depend on are heading into territory that may have no place for our technological civilization. How is that a response to the previous statement? It sounds like the same thing I always hear when someone shoots down the global warming scam with facts and logic.
I'm sure that Al Gore has made up some rule book that is being passed around to tree-hugging communists that state: When confronted with logic and fact that proves that the environmental movement is not based in fact, ignore it and point out some other event that you can twist to use for the cause. Never get into a legitimate debate. Doing so may show our movement to be the fraud that it is.
