Education in the US is pretty much dead. Facts are no longer taught, free and creative thought no longer encouraged. The government and teachers unions give the teachers instructions on what to brain wash kids with, in what grade to use the material, and in what class. Children are also bunched up and forced to learn the same material at the same age in the same way. No regard to the fact that some people learn faster than others and in different ways than others. Doing so might make the ones that don't learn as fast feel insecure. And lets not have them repeat a grade if they didn't learn the material they were suppose to. The child might feel that they weren't good enough.
The problem, as I see it, is that our current corporate 'free market' system allows an end run around the checks and balances. A free market contains no checks or balances against the consolidation of power.
The problem is not the corporate 'free market,' it is the fact that common sense is not being taught to our youth. When someone doesn't know that coffee and hamburgers may be hot and ends up suing and winning millions for their own stupidity then common sense is dead. Without common sense being used by the public, then the checks and balances that are suppose to exist in the free market are not there and we get what we have today: DRM, RIAA suing grandmothers instead of major pirates, and P2P being banned. If common sense existed in the public, the corporate free market would never try this because they would fear customers leaving them and someone else coming along offering their customers what they wanted without the garbage.
But that isn't happening. We just keep handing these companies our money and complain. We just keep voting the same people into office and complain. Thomas Jefferson is right, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." But We the People allowed this to happen. We allowed the elected officials to twist and disregard our rights and all we did was sit back and complain or ignored it because it effected Bob and not you. The US was formed from a war that was about the people not being represented in government and unnecessarily taxed. We in the US seem to have forgotten history and are now letting it repeat itself. An election is coming up, and now is the BEST time to try to fix this. After all, "if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."
It is not our job to go after real pirates. Our job is to sue your grandmother and college student into the poor house as well as make you pay for the same media multiple times so that you can use them on multiple (approved) devices.
If the media is not in a format that your device can use, then we did not approve of the use of the device for the media. You should go buy an approved device to solve the problem.
If you do not appreciate our DRM that we use to ensure that you are only using legal media, then we suggest that you get a shotgun and hunt down the real pirates while you wait for your turn to be sued by us.
The key to the story would present it in a way that the mass public could understand that MediaDefender are doing illegal things that could result in you being framed for a crime you did not commit.
After all, if they can inject fake torrents on Revision3 servers which is suppose to have trained IT people running it, then what is to stop MediaDefender from doing it to Joe User's computer.
Even if this story makes it to the mainstream media, its not going to get much airtime. True, this won't get much airtime but not because Joe User doesn't know what Revision3 is. This won't get airtime because MediaDefender is paid by the **AA, which also seems to have full control of the news media.
The BONIC client is a load of garbage. I use to do SETI until they switched to BONIC. The stupid client doesn't let go of clock cycles like the old SETI client did. Also, it was impossible for me to ever download a job when I was still stuck on dial-up.
But the final straw for me was that the BONIC client for Linux required (at the time of the switch) X to run. That killed my interest in the SETI project due to the fact that I could no longer use my cluster server built out of old PCs on SETI.
Another reason to do Folding@Home over the climate change predictor: There is NO climate change.
It is only a scam made up by environmentalist wackos that are trying to control your life.
Vista is proof, and Windows 7 will be more proof, that M$ has no real idea on how to write OS code.
They are still using the same NT kernel that is nothing more than modified OS/2 code. I bet if you look at the full code it will have comments that say OS/2 or IBM. And there is probably one line of code left in there from OS/2 that nobody at M$ has any idea of what it does or how it works. All they know is if you remove that line the OS fails to work.
I look forward to the day when people stop saying "I'm X race" and instead say "I carry the genetic markers for A, B, and C." Well, perhaps it's unlikely, but an ex-biologist can dream, can't he? The only way that day might happen is the day we come in contact with alien life. Then maybe we will stop seeing ourselves as these made up races and start seeing ourselves as the human race.
I always thought it was a stupid idea to turn corn
(i.e. food) into fuel and drive our food prices up along with the gas prices. If any food item needs to be looked at for conversion into fuel then maybe they should look at sugar beets. The only food prices effected from them is food that nobody really needs.
Hoax -noun
1. something intended to deceive or defraud: The Piltdown man was a scientific hoax.
Scam -noun
1. a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, esp. for making a quick profit; swindle.
It is both a scam and a hoax.
So, you're saying it's a scoax then. Take scoax, throw out the "ax" and you now know the who made the site.
Lets not forget #3. (3) Disney protection: I now have a copy of that Disney film my kids love but sometimes scratch up and I don't have to worry about not being able to get a replacement when Disney decides to vault the movie.
Then people like yourself should lead by example and use pedal power cars and live in mud huts. Now I know that you will say that their are "green" cars out there, but lets look at how green they really are.
Cars running on ethanol still put out these "greenhouse" gases. And by the made up environmentalist numbers of what are cars are doing now in destroying the environment compared to these ethanol cars, we just move the day that everyone has ocean front property to out great grandchildren. Electric cars get their power for (gasp) power plants. And we all know that environmentalists all hate power plants because of coal/oil/gas/nuclear pollution. And using a solar panel to charge your car, well I hope you have a couple of weeks to wait for going to the store to buy groceries. And wind turbines are only useful if you can channel all this environmentalist garbage into one constant stream of hot air to keep the turbines spinning. And hydrogen / fuel-cell cars requires (gasp again) power to make the fuel out of water, they are now as worthless as electric cars in a tree-hugging world.
As for our homes, since it is so wrong to cut down our secrete trees to make them and clear land to build them and we can't heat or cool them because power plants and burning things are wrong (even though mother nature has been burning things for billions of years) I guess that leaves us in mud huts sleeping in the corner shivering in the cold and wondering what that noise was outside and if the thing that made it was going to eat us.
So lets throw out over 3000 years of progress and go back to the knuckle dragging days just so we can make every environmentalist happy. That is the only option we have with the numbers that environmentalist have came up with on where the world is heading. Its not like those number could of been made up. Nope, not at all. The numbers they told me from the 80s to now about the de-forestation rates say that they are no more trees on the face of the Earth. Not a single tree anywhere. Nope, there isn't a tree outside my window that I not looking at right now. Nope, no trees.
First, what I'm paying for is unlimited internet. If they can not provide that then it is a breach of contract. If they are having problems providing unlimited to all their customers, then they need to expand their network instead of slapping a meter on my router. There are hundreds of miles of fiber cable in the ground already that is dark because they decided that they don't need to use it. Light that fiber up and keep giving me unfiltered and unlimited internet.
I see this story and am reminded of my dealings with universities. I want to Kansas State's tech branch in 97 and got expelled for bad grades when I supposedly tested out of all my first year classes except algebra and english comp. I only failed english comp due to the fact I would not write papers to the teachers perverted standard describing sex. Yet, I make one complaint about free computers supplied in the dorms not working right my grades are all turned to a 'F' and I'm told not to come back next semester. I tried to appeal multiple times, they refuse to hear me.
Another school I went to kicked me out of the dorms in January of 2000 after I complained to friends in the cafeteria that the food there sucked. Then the school had the nerve to charge me for the rest of the semester on the dorm room, even though they moved someone into it as they were throwing me out.
As for the counselor releasing the information about the session, they violated HIPPA regulations. I work with developmentally disabled adults and there are some things that I can not even tell the person's guardian due to HIPPA regulations.
Back in 99, i ordered a sound card and several other components from a company. I got everything but the sound card. Instead of the sound card I got a bunch a priority mail envelopes that equaled the weight of the sound card that was listed on the invoice. When I called the company and complained, they stated that I had to of received the sound card because the shipping weight matched that of all of the components.
After that happening to me, I can believe this Best Buy story.
Your statement shows me the sad state of the educational system when they do not teach basic law or (apparently) how to research and read. This woman is one of many that has to deal with the RIAA in this way. She is the first to actually fight back. She was wrongfully accused, and therefore had the right in the US legal system to get compensation for that. As for the RIAA doing something illegal, how is knocking at your door demanding $4000 or you'll be sued and might have to spent two to four times that defending yourself not extortion? Its just like a mobster demanding $1000 for "protection" or you might loose $10000 repairing the damage.
Was this update really needed? Or did some tech just install it because it was available and M$ said it was critical?

Maybe he just doesn't like the fact that the BONIC client is a giant pain in the butt.
BONIC is like Windows, a good idea all messed up by people who don't know how to program.
The BONIC client is a load of garbage. I use to do SETI until they switched to BONIC. The stupid client doesn't let go of clock cycles like the old SETI client did. Also, it was impossible for me to ever download a job when I was still stuck on dial-up.

It might take M$ a while to recover from the Vista mistake. Maybe you should wait for Windows 22.

IE isn't integrated, its viral. I tried removing it back in the 98 days only to have its files replace themselves on the next reboot.
Have you compared the same setup with XP running? I'm sure you'll find lag in Vista once you do.
Lets all put tracking chips in us so its easier for Terminators to track us down and kill us after Judgment Day.
