Jeez so long I posted that I can barely remember my login and on such a overdone topic but I have never seen the exact question asked how would a properly set up nix system stay up with Joe Doze adding and removing hard and software daily. Christ my cousins win box is a nightmare with every fopnt, icon wallpaper theme Game dumb fractal applet worthless application hacked and other crap its all on a PIII with plenty O disk and RAM Anyhow I dunno how linux gets when you install and uninstall endless packages I think we may see a lot more linux reboots of course Windows is quite often like that from a fresh installation.
I dunno I guess I am just curious to what degree bad administration affects linux stability
If They were not we would have low power radio. And the citizenry woul have ANY Input at all into how the Electromagnetic spectrum is used. Does it strike you as a bit obscene that private Citizens have no say what these bandwidths get used foir. I mean it 10 zillion other peoples cell phone Calls Ciopies of friends and rush limbaugh radio that pass through or are absorbed by my body 24/7. Now before you tell me to make a tinfoil helmet the pint I am trying to make is that the public is so blind to how much money is being made off all these valuable RF bands which they rightfully own.

What if they are hackers and not just simple software engineers.
Seriously though if you are maing some sort of distinction using this terminology I think working in a hacker mode which I would say is creatively but without the strict methodology is very effective in the team room type environment esp because there is less likely to be the fancy group SW eng tools which facilitate though often over structure communication of pieces of a project.
No printing costs severely reduced marketing costs, gaurunteed student purchase, no student used text market. I was told when I was in university 5 years back that textbooks were generally the highest profit part of a publishing company.
Also what happens when your powerbook dies the night before an exam? It's been known to happen.
What a horrid deal.
I think they mean that you cannot distribute their libraries header files etc which someone else might use to compile and link with a different compiler. It does not make any sense that they would have any control over your sources.
You could not reverse engineer a game which took several years to code and get anything close to source code and understand and work with it without a major effort remember this is many people coding for much time compliling writing 10-100's of thousands of lines of code that code is then compiled with an optomizing compiler to take advantage of all kinda of cpu peculiarities to get more speed out of it. You cant just decomplie it and have usefull source. If you have the commented source to play with on a non commercial basis you have an amazing base to learn from and quite frankly if you want to use it commercially they have the right to make you pay for it.
I realize that mac's are largely used by the graphic design community but A few photoshop filters which show the absolute best a G4 can do dont accurately describe system speed it seems to me from what I know of altivec it would be of little or no use in things like large compiles large database manipulations etc. I think unless one is going to say that the purpose of a mac is to run photoshop and no more its the benchmarks showing a few photoshop filters mean next to to non photoshop users.
Granted I am pretty certain that the G4 is a superior chip to the PIII in terms of engineering elegance one really has to be fair and do all around benchmarks on a machine not just single photoshop filters.
I beleieve the type of accuracy you are refering to either rely on your having access to a ground stations whisch send out another timing signal and your reciever's being in place for a certain amount of time. (ie. you will not get this resolution at anything near realtime.)
Personally I think PDF is one of the worst standards on the Interent. it gives you little control over how you view the manual. I hate being stuck with using acrobat reader and its forced page layout.
An exact replica of the printed page is not the ideal way to read a manual on the screen. I am in favour of man Files or better yet graphical man file browsers or windows style help which allows graphics but does not force a paper centric layout.
While now I have a 1280 * 1024 monitor I dont hate PDF quite so much I still think trying to read something which is layed out for typesetting at paper resolutions it very annoying and has caused me to really hate PDF.
I dont have any experience with win2k Advanced Server (I do have Quite a few years with NT 4 Server and have found its stability to be at time far less than acceptable but I here they have really improved on Advanced server) but I did notice that Advanced server runs $3919 USD. This does not include the fact that it is tuned to perform on higher end server hardware than a linux or free BSD solution Its minimum ram expectations are 256 Meg. These do not seem like they are bugetarily within your average churches purchasing power. I can also say that I have heard decent audible quality streamed MP3 off of a p166mmx with 64 megs of ram running linux and I'm not sure what streaming software so while win2K AS might be the dream solution bugetarily I hardly think it is justifiable for a smaller organization. Just gotta look at the $$ soomethimes

Look at the american system of campaign funding and lobbiests just because. Somehow corporations financing political campaigns to the tone of millions of dollars in order to get their positions on food safety, polution control which are clearly against the public interest voted for is not bribery? Oh well
If you can boot another OS... Why even bother looking at your TV assuming you have X just run your Xserver on an old 486 or heck another high end machine your 1 GHZ 64 meg $149 boxs could be clustered into a rendering farm or other small scale supercomputing applications. Imagine if they have the right I/O you have a web server cluster etc etc....

"One more thing - many authors (and publishers) hate libraries"
Those who hate libraries absolutely deserve to be ripped off.
