I agree that there isn't much in the way of exclusives to get excited about. Although, the 360 version will sure require disc swapping, which I really can't stand. As said earlier, versus is still exclusive. And I am personally quite excited about Disgaea 3, which is going to be exclusive, although this won't appeal to everyone.

I think you make a good point. Here in on the east coast of Canada, the police force has publically stated that they are only looking for woman and visible minorities to apply (same for the fire department). Although I am not against hiring from different ethnic groups, the minute you exclude any group of people from the selection process, you are by definition, lowering the bar of competence and physical aptitude of the position. I also believe that the increase in taser use is a way to offset a lack of qualified staff.

Personally, I have always found that the combination of a joystick and mouse is ideal for FPS games. I use the mouse to aim, and the joytick to move, mouse to shoot, joystick for most of the other buttons. It works really well.

Unfortunately, Canada has a really bad track record for IT.
Remember the gun registry database? Not a terribly ambitious project... It was budgeted for $2 Million, and ended up running $748 Million over budget (seriously).

(Not the best link, didn't have much time to look for one).

  5. Re:The defeatocrats are the terrorists best ally on Subpoenas Issued Over NSA Warrantless Wiretapping · · Score: 2, Insightful

The problem is that the government always had the legal power to wiretap suspected terrorists. The Bush administration is simply trying to do this without oversight. This is strange because from what I gather, when the government is concerned, warrants are little more then a rubber stamp system, and are rarely, if ever denied. This seems terribly similar to the administration's battle to remove paper receipts from electronic voting machines. The only reasonable explanations that I can see for either of these actions are that they are trying to get away with something. But thats just my two cents...

  6. Re:bang bang on Church Threatens Legal Action Over Sony Game · · Score: 3, Informative

From my understanding, Sony did not design this game. Everyone likes to blame Sony for all the problems in the world (including myself), but this game was made by Insomniac. Sony did approve of the game for distribution, but they certainly had nothing to do with the creative process. Comments such as "What were Sony thinking when they made this" are quite irresponsibe in my opinion...

Second Life is a very unique game based largely on 3D modeling and scripting. I think it is far more /.worthy then an adventure game which is very fun, with a large user base, but really is not very innovative. But thats just my opinion...

Many years ago, I was tasked to add some more robust search features to our company's helpdesk software. Being a novice developer, I ended up leaving the search fields wide open to SQL injection exploits. Thankfully, to my knowledge it was never abused, and once you got the hang of it, it became a pretty powerful reporting tool. Those were my young and foolish days though, I now realize that the potential for disaster was dangerously high :)
