People who are jobless, looking for jobs, and available for work are unemployed.

So in other words, those who have given up and are not looking for work aren't counted in the reported statistics. In fact, there's a large number of so-called discouraged unemployed who occasionally decide to wake up from depression, look for a job, then all of a sudden the unemployment statistics magically shoot up. Then there's the under employed. These figures are all available from the BLS if you dig around. But given the reported statistics from the BLS at face value is kind of stupid. Afterall, in the 80's discouraged workers were counted in the main unemployment statistics used, now all of a sudden we are to accept the new way of counting unemployment? The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

They'll go bankrupt soon. This is the dirty endgame of outsourcing that most haven't found out yet. Oh.. but they will *evilish laugh*.

These...people... are pushing forth guidelines for writing "Orange"-friendly HTML...

Check out this "Orange Web Development Guidelines"

    link

It's password protected, I could access this yesterday, amazingly when I laughed at some Orange developers and posted about this on another forum yesterday, it was indeed not password protected.

But the pdf guidelines basically states these gotchas

    1) Can't send any frames.. frames are filtered out before they get to the phone

    2) Jscript parser case sensitvity is opposite that of IE 4/5

    3) There's one font called "nina"

So this is arguably HTML, in fact it's not HTML since frames are definitely a part of HTML. well 4.0 but they're using other 4.0 HTML features. So they're non-standard. WAP's next generation, wireless xHTML, is indeed a standard per the WAP forum, and should be adopted soon. It's just as feature-rich as wireless HTML markup can be, just like "Orange HTML" only difference is it's a standard unlike "Orange HTML." xHTML has been agreed upon by Japanese telco's, European carries, American carriers. SPV's hack of HTML browsing isn't a solution.. It's neat, but WAP will replace it. Guess WAP isn't crap.

I think I used it when living in Holland. All TV's in Holland come with a feature whereby you can browse text, get movie showtimes, look at events in your local town and other such neat things which for me was a neat little find, didn't know TV's could do that kind of stuff. The local theatres had TV sets which were set to the movie channel so you could view the movie listings that way, it's pretty common in Holland. I struck me as something very similar to Minitel but not quite as interactive, I didn't have a keyboard, I could only really browse and get information like train schedules, I couldn't for example book a train I think. This was in 1998 by the way.

  11. Re:BBSes were ages from Minitel network! on Minitel Hits Twenty · · Score: 1

Yes, they had message boards long before the IRC(QSD for example, was x25 based but you could connect via minitel). And although I respect the multi-user BBS'es, they weren't the same as minitel at all. Minitel offered online services connecting people to other people _and_ companies, whereas fido net and other multi-user BBS'es were mainly just connecting people to other people so they could chat. You could do useful stuff with minitel for awhile, like book train tickets, check your school grades, look at the local movie showings. It was informational and serive oriented.

Minitel, on the otherhand, has been anything but a failure, and has a huge acceptance rate in France, the government gave out terminals _for free. It was a success in France, something which cannot be said about any such service in the UK I would imagine.

By not supplying a factual reason for going to war the U.S. is set on a course which isn't the best one. Bush has single handedly set a precedent.. Presidents and PMs of the world can attack nations by saying "We have evidence which we can't share you, but trust us, this is worth it." This is dangerous.

And no, there is no link between Saddam and Bin Laden. Cheney claimed their was citing a report between Al Queda and an Iraqi officer in Prague, but that was proven to be false. Bush has said screw you to diplomacy, the UN, NATO, proving proof to wage war.. Domestically we are in a long term recession and his tax cut is bankrupting social security. Domestically and internationally bush is screwing all Americans. While he wages war spending trillions, school kids can't go to school because there's no funding for their school and their buildings aren't maintained.

Bush will go down as the worst president in history when all is said and done.
