here's the fundamental misunderstanding you have.
you assume that the point here is only to use the programs (games) that run on windows currently.
the point isn't just to *run* them... of course, most users could just reboot to windows. easy.
the POINT of it all, is to run those programs ON LINUX... just rebooting to windows ruins the fun.
remember that the people who use linux primarily, and (i among them) and who program for it, are almost all religiously fanatic about the use of linux.... they (we) believe it's some sort of purity of soul.
until you come to grips with that, nearly ALL of this stuff will seem like a waste of time to you... all this open source software.
who would want to give away they're hard work? > someone who profits from it in a different way than by selling it.
--never assume the other guy sees the world with the same eyes you do.
just an opinion: the fact that i don't use microsoft products (aside from the obvious lack in quality, etc) because i don't agree with microsoft's business practices will not change if they start making software for linux.
i'll say that again. this is a bunch of crap. is the css stuff gonna need hosting that's not gonna cut them off at the faintest smell of legal action? jwhitema@netscape.net
Here's the deal people. Microsoft is out there to take YER FUCKING MONEY. Linux is out there to enhance the world, bring purity of soul, vanquish evil, etc etc. I just want to be put on record as saying that as long as any organization's primary goal is making money, you should automatically assume that all other moral and legal obligations have been completely cast aside. Microsoft is the definition of evil in this world. If there was an encyclopedia entry for "all that is wrong with capitolism and society and will cause the eventual complete distruction of humanity" there would be a picture of Microsoft's marketing executives next to it.
Sorry to subject all of you to that, but i had to rant. Someone has to stop this madness before people like me start making more madness.
this has got to be some kind of joke... as a once-time student of a mechanical drafting and writing class, i think i can safely say that this story, if to be taken seriously, is rediculous at best.

yea, but all that stupid xserver does is correct for the things Nvidia's chips do that keep it from being able to use the normal SVGA server.
it does NOT support any of the hardware 3d acceleration functions. for any api.
I do not claim to be able to damn anyone or anything to Hell, or anywhere else. I do not claim to be the right hand of Chaos. That aside, 408-615-2500 is a phone number to Nvidia's corporate headquarters. After calling it and stating my business, i was curtly forwareded to the desk of some or another marketing manager by a secretary that seemed like she'd already done that a thousand times today, where the marketing executive whoever's voicemail kindly kept him from having to talk to me and the countless others who may have called already. I have to wonder if perhaps nvidia just isn't aware of how powerful of an resource the linux community could be to them. Perhaps they have no idea? I wonder if it would change their minds if the evidence was all packed into their marketing manager's voicemail at 3:00 on an idle friday afternoon? --just an idea-- ~jon

i think we should all get a spare of ourselves, in case of accidents.

wouldn't it be cool if they could break the waste down into something useful and non-toxic... ... like say, McDonald's Mac Sauce. oh.. wait. nevermind.
