    I was just blocking anything that sent SPAM or exhibited suspicious network behavior. It wasn't until recently that I happened to notice they were mostly from Russia. Granted, a good amount were from China, too, as well as, for some reason, Verizon cellphones.

    I admit that I had already blocked millions of their IP addresses.

  8. The primary problem with XMPP adoption as far as I can tell is simply that nobody working on it understands how it works or what it's for, and nobody working on developer's documentation for it does either.

    Ok, so if it's not Facebook doing this one, then who is it? Someone is definitely listening to the mics even when video is not being captured by the user.

    Nobody expected a proliferation of asshats would cause to be called into question the priorities of making emergency alert systems easily accessible.

  16. Well, obviously not everyone reads and obeys the TOS but just FYI, falsifying account data is one of the things explicitly forbidden by it.

  17. In a couple weeks watch them be twice as surprised to find out Twitter's API enables the same exact type of data harvesting, and other social networks have scrambled to catch up.

  18. It's "unauthorized" but also protected only by the honor system. There's no technical mechanism in place to restrict how the data is stored, where, or for how long. Once they've copied it from the Facebook API and it's on their servers, it's basically protected only by the developer account terms of service and there's no manual or automated way they can even tell, remotely, if there is a breach of this compliance.

    Nice attempt to shift the subject, but I'm sorry you're way out of order. The videos were demonetized for inciting violence. A personal response of real-world violence does not constitute proof that demonetizing them was wrong or unjust.
